PEZ cancels Easter egg hunt after parents prematurely storm field

PEZ Candy abruptly canceled its third annual Easter egg hunt Saturday after parents stormed the field in Connecticut, according to a company news release.

Children as young as 4 were pushed aside by parents eager to grab as many of the 9,000 eggs hidden in three fields.

It was originally advertised to be three separate events, to be broken up by age groups, beginning at 10:30 a.m., before a visit from the Easter Bunny, according to the PEZ Company.

Instead of waiting for their designated time, people chose to enter the first field before anyone from PEZ starting the event, the release said.

"When it came time, at like 10:30 a.m. ET, the parents just bum-rushed that area," West Haven resident Nicole Welch told CNN affiliate WFSB. "When my son left, he had a broken basket, and he was hysterically crying."

These are the parents raising the next generation - and they way they act says a lot about how they themselves were raised.

Our culture is spiraling into the cellar.

We are being “Fergusonized”.

I had a similar experience about 25 years ago with my own small children. The parents rushed in and scooped up the eggs and dragged their kids around to get as many eggs as possible.

My wife and I were disgusted. What was supposed to be a fun event for the kids became a competition with a big number of parents wanting as many eggs for their kids as possible.

We didn’t think too many kids had much fun that day. This event jogs my memory of how adults can ruin a fun activity set up for the kids.

This was a Easter egg hunt. Isn't that supposed to be for kids? Why were the parents even going on the field? Its not like there was gold hidden in the eggs. Our society is so screwed up anymore. Give something away and alleged adults react like Pavlov dogs, hellbent on getting as many eggs as possible. It isn't even what's in them. Its just the idea that they are going to get something for free so if they have to push a 4 year old kid down to get the free egg, so be it. If you asked one of these parents why they did it afterward, they wouldn't have an answer.

I can believe this, after seeing much the same thing at a local community Easter Egg Hunt a few years ago.

It wasn't the locals who were causing the problems, either.

I see no point in fistfights over 10c worth of candy, or in steamrolling over a 5 year old for the same. WBill Jr. just did the one at our church, we had just as much fun.

This is my baby, the Holy Grail of Pez ™ dispensors, the ultra rare Batman Pez ™ dispensor worth $21.40. Look at it and weep amateurs.

Went to a community hunt when mine was 2. Never again. I was utterly disgusted. We only went to church ee hunts from then on.

I’ve never been to one of these, how do they hide the eggs on fields, is the grass tall or something?

Sickening and an indication of what the “gimme culture” has produced. I hope PEZ never has such an event again. These people are not worthy of it.

I think its less about the free stuff, and more about their kid’s self esteem. They don’t want their child’s ego bruised if they don’t get as many eggs as the next kid...so they set up artificial parameters to help their kid ‘succeed’.

Yes that’s exactly what they do. They go to a park which has grassy playing fields, and hide the eggs in the field or under trees.

That is the same thing I was thinking.
These kooks are clobbering each other for less than $1.00 worth of candy?
Sheesh.
