Apple lied and is now feigning surprise and ignorance.

Apple likely knows exactly how the FBI broke into the phone.

WHat’s funny is now Apple is “demanding” that the FBI show them how it was done...LOL

An Israeli front organization for Mossad cracked the code. They’ve been breaking into muzzie cell phones for years.

1) I think Apple knows how to get into this and any other of their phones.

2) I support their stance on not helping Uncle Fingers get into their device.

3) Of course they ask the FBI how they did it; it has to sound plausible that they feign ignorance on the method used.

4) There is always the possibility that they did help the FBI but that would be a losing game for Apple once it got out.

Nothing mysterious at all. Cellebrite of Israel, actually owned by Japanese.

The FBI has had 9 years to work on hacking iPhones. Surely they learned something along the way. This is the biggest non-story of the year.

Its BS. the FBI determined that the value of the data had depreciated so much it was not worth the fight. The scare to the iPhone users, however, was worth a lot more. Hence, the false claim of success.

I wonder if Apple will now sue the FBI.

They possibly figured out how to create a virtual iPhone, and cracked the phone with a brute force approach.

IIRC this was not the newest iPhone. It probably was using the basic 4 number password, giving only 10,000 unique passwords. Even if the phone was set to clear itself after 10 failed passwords, they'd only have to create 1,000 virtual phones, a process which could be automated.

Even a 6 number password would be only a million variations and could be solved by brute force methods. A longer alphanumeric password would be problematic.

I always considered this a CHESS GAME to get Apple out in the open on their stance. I think they had the phone open the day it came into the FBI’s hands.

The whole thing was a publicity stunt by Apple to make stupid people believe that only Apple engineers are smart enough to get in there.

Believe me, it ain’t rocket science. But it is computer science which, unlike art, can be duplicated. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be science.

Hmm...I'm guessing it isn't that Apple doesn't know how it could be done so much as they don't know which way (of several possibilities) it was done. It's a slightly different thing. It wasn't done "without help" at all, it just wasn't with Apple's help.

This is, as someone said up-thread, largely kabuki theater. The FBI didn't get their private back door (we think), which was probably the real point behind the affair in the first place. That's a win. The FBI got the information for which it had a warrant. That's a win too. Either that or I'm completely misinterpreting the whole thing, which wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last. ;-)
