Trump attempts to walk back abortion comments

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump reversed course Wednesday afternoon, saying he would only seek to punish doctors who perform abortions should the practice become illegal again. The statement came hours after an excerpt of an interview was released in which Trump said women should be punished for having illegal abortions. "If Congress were to pass legislation making abortion illegal and the federal courts upheld this legislation, or any state were permitted to ban abortion under state and federal law, the doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be held legally responsible, not the woman," Trump said in the afternooon statement. "The woman is a victim in this case as is the life in her womb. My position has not changed — like Ronald Reagan, I am pro-life with exceptions."

The statement directly contradicts comments he made earlier Wednesday, during a town hall interview airing tonight with MSNBC's Chris Matthews.

If the current federal policy on abortion is ever reversed, the matter of prohibiting abortion, and punishing abortion, will be entirely a state matter. As it was before.

This is an area which Trump has not thought about very much, as he himself has admitted. The real answer to the current situation is for the pro-life movement to demand of the governors of the states that they nullify the Supreme Court decisions on abortion.

The proper role of the President in the matter of abortion is: When the governors nullify all of the Supreme Court’s decisions on abortion, do nothing.

“The Polls All Lie” will be the mantra of the reality TV star’s cult right up to his concession speech.

And Trumps themes aren’t bad: Borders and Jobs is a potentially winning ticket in the hands of a competent candidate. But not in the hands of Trump who has driven away women who might otherwise support him.

You got a point. But the very fact that this has been told a thousand DIFFERENT times is telling.

The villagers are not going to come running. They will assume there is no wolf.

And the GOPe are not going to hate him any more than they did yesterday over this. He is at war with him. That is why people give him so much slack.

YOUR suggested answer is the pro-abortion position.

Its called common sense. The massive increase in dishonest reporting push polls and vicious attacks online showed up right after Cruz called the Establishment for help.

It defies logic with Cruz’s screw ups in reaction to the Cuban Mistress crisis that hes going up. Trump has not changed, his Message has not changed, his supporters have not changed.

And this is not the first rodeo with bogus push polls saying Trump is losing and Cruz is winning.

I don’t have to prove it. Trump is proving it.

In the last two days, he’s made vague comments against NATO.

He’s said he’s for government run health care and schools.

He’s gone into total meltdown against another female reporter.

And he’s said women who have an abortion should be imprisoned.

They purposely ask stupid questions when Trump is surrounded and distracted then make it read any way they want it to.

SICK of this so called press.>>>> i’m a trump fan and he needs to either shut up or get away from these venues. it’s his problem. he has pretty much done it in. down by 10 in WI.

Totally.

It’s kind of ridiculous to be in total denial about Donald Trump.

Nobody in the press is hurting him. They are for him.

Nobody like Rush or Mark Levin is hurting him.

He’s hurting himself.

Do you think Trump will never be surrounded or distracted if he is president?

This is getting ridiculous, trumpers.

Re your first question. Where in the world did you get the idea that socons don’t want to punish a woman who has an abortion?

Those who commit murder should be punished.

when i heard this today i thought “now we are finally hearing Donald Trump’s own unfettered policy.” somehow he must have escaped the confines of his campaign staff because i thought it was such an insane idea.

Cruz doesn't answer the question Matthews asks. Or is he absolving women of all responsibility in abortion? How is that prolife?

Trump's first answer is correct: they hire to kill, they pay the price too. When he changed this subsequently, he is mistaken.

I do give this issue some thought. Today 7 squads ganged up on me as I stood outside a place that does abortions.

Creating a culture of life can coexist with holding ALL responsible in the killing of the child: the center, the nurse, the assistant, the doctor, the billing department, the mother, the co-conspirator father or uncle, etal.

To be honest, I can’t decide who is a bigger douche today; Cruz or Trump. They both have disappointed me today.

You two must not be familiar with how the Media DeathStar operates.

Cruz only took a grazing shot, because the main battery is focused on Trump, and look what it did to him...
