He ran his own ‘Peoples Temple’, talked about God all the time, he was a ‘social justice warrior’ long before the phrase came into play, and he was a big pal to ‘RATS like Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter, AND California Governor Jerry Brown.

So sure, he was ‘religious’ in the sense that he was able to appeal to people on a religious basis.
