GilGil are you not a conservative?
So could I make the same argument that 2 American citizens have a kid in the USA then go live in Saudi for 40 years, is that child eligible to be president?

Yes! The kid is eligible!

Can I ask if Trump was the one born in the situation of Cruz would you be on the same side?

I would not support Trump.

It is my understanding that the natural born rule which originally was two people natural born( born in US) with an offspring natural born (born in US) was designed so that there was a high probability that these people had a strong background of the American culture.

Now that that has been blown up first with Obama, now with Cruz basically anyone can run for president on this planet.

Notice that in this recent decision the court does not specify what kind of citizen one of the parents needs to be as long as they are a US citizen. Someone who comes here to have a child who is first a naturalized citizen can have a natural born child even if the child is born elsewhere.

I came to this country a citizen of France. I became a naturalized citizen. Under this new definition I can go back to France or anywhere and have a child and he will be natural born.

The millions of illegal immigrants here can become naturalized and go back to where they came from and their children would be natural born. Essentially citizenship of the US means nothing anymore except when you have to pay taxes. Now that sounds truly conservative ( hyper sarc).

My 4th great grandparents were both born in the American colony of New York...1757 and 1767

they were both children of 2 American colony born parents, the descendants of people born or lived here for generations

they met and married in the new country of Canada and had children all born there...my 5th ggf was born in 1797...was he eligible to be POTUS ???

that man never lived anywhere else but Canada and married a woman born in Vermont (the child of of other US born people) and had children all born in Canada...their son born in 1831 was my 2nd great great grandfather...

was this last man eligible to be president ???

Of course he was based on what the courts and some FReepers here have determined...

and yet the Obama birthers claimed he wasn’t and at that time I agreed with them...

however now we have Cruz also born in Canada to an American born mother but a foreign born father with no previous American ancestors, and suddenly the rules have changed ???
