Donald Trump has collapsed in general election polls
vox.com ^ | March 31, 2016 | Andrew Prokop

Donald Trump loves to brag that he's ahead of Hillary Clinton in the polls. "I beat Hillary Clinton in many polls," he repeatedly insisted at a debate earlier this month.

Here on planet Earth, that isn't true or even close to true. In 33 general election polls tracked by HuffPost Pollster over the past two months, Trump has led Clinton in just one.

Trump now trails Clinton by 9 points in the HuffPost Pollster polling average and by 11.2 points in RealClearPolitics' average — and he's behind Bernie Sanders by even more in both. Any of these showings from Trump would be the weakest performance from a major party nominee in the past 20 years.

The trendlines for the billionaire are terrible too. Back during the waning months of 2015, he regularly came within a few points of both Clinton and Sanders. But historically, polls conducted so far in advance have been essentially meaningless.

Crucially, Trump's decline has happened just when these polls actually start to mean something. In newer polls, Trump almost never comes close to either Clinton or Sanders anymore. And in past races, changes in general election polling that have occurred during this period of the campaign have often ended up sticking.

"Were this a few months ago, I'd say, 'What's the big deal?'" says Christopher Wlezien, a political science professor at the University of Texas. "But polls today are much more meaningful than they were 90 days ago. And the polls today are much less favorable for Trump."

Let’s wait until about September, when Trump will be giving the American public an education on Hillary, hitting her with everything from Whitewater to Vince Foster to Benghazi. We’ll see how the polls look then.

People don't understand that. Everyone who thinks Hillary can win this thing has completely forgotten what a scandal ridden hag she is.

When either Trump or Cruz opens up on her after the convention, she will wish she had never thought of running for President. Her media allies won't be able to stop the hammering she will get over all those scandals in her scandal plagued life.

Hillary is toast, and it doesn't matter who we run against her, she will still be toast.

Both Trump and Cruz have been very damaged by the last few weeks.

very sad, if true we may loose the once in 40 year possibility to achieve a party realignment. That would have allowed the republicans to have a viable coalition going forward and deal with the big issues of illegal immigration and deindustrializing that seem to be at the core of a lot of ills.

Is there anything Hillary could say that would convince you not to vote for Trump? If the answer is no you will have to come to grips with the fact that it can not be done either way. There’s a few percent in the middle that will swing either way. But if all lefties go to the polls that won’t matter either. We live in a country where Obama has a favorable job rating. Think about that.

That’s it. He’s peaked. Stick a fork in him, he’s done. Nothing for the establishment to worry about now. Now all they have to do is dump the upstart Cruz at the convention for line jumping.

Lets just toss it in and call Bishop Romney

after he debates Hillary with all the fire and vigor of debating hos mother, he’ll get the women’s vote, the men’s vote, the black vote, the latino vote the illegal vote - and the Mormon vote!

Not really. It depends on the poll. Just a few weeks ago Trump led Cankles in a national poll, while in late 2015 he was routinely down anywhere from 2 to 10.

I follow polls pretty closely, and this is wishful thinking.

Moreover, if you look at STATE polling (Electoral College) Trump was ahead in NC, FL, either ahead or very close in OH, MI, AND PA, I.e., victory.

“I think these polls are referring to his steady erosion nationally, losing badly to Clinton in the general, rather than relative to his primary opponents.”

Probably so, but that dance has yet to start. And the MSM/DNC/GOPe cabal is so focused on Trump not being “electable” that these polls are worthless as indicators of what's coming. When Trump starts in on Hilary in earnest, then polling may become relevant.

Pond scum over Senator Cruz? I heard it does have some redeeming qualities.
