$15 minimum-wage movement sets sights on more states

California and New York — where almost 1 in 5 Americans live — are on their way to raising their minimum wage to $15 an hour, and the activists who spearheaded those efforts are now setting their sights on other similarly liberal, Democratic-led states.

Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington are among the states with active “Fight for $15” efforts, and even economic experts who oppose the increased rate see it gaining momentum.

“There is lots of pressure to do this,” said Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a former Congressional Budget Office director who is now president of the conservative American Action Forum, which says big minimum-wage increases cost jobs. …

The real crappy thing is I work in Oregon, and as the pimple faced burger flippers, and uneducated/unskilled workers get a 51% pay increase, me as a skilled worker with years of schooling/training/effort will not see a 51% increase in pay to go along with the inflation and higher cost of living that the $15/hr will bring. Eventhough as an automation specalist, my worth will be higher due to the increase in line automation to start replacing the jobs of the $15 crowd. These idiots dont realize they are slitting their own necks. Honestly I was smart and fortunate to get into this field before the demand skyrockets, because when the market gets flooded with noobs I will be higher on the list of employeers due to experiance.

Kinda funny how things works out, God does have a plan.

High wages means fewer jobs, which means more on unemployment and welfare, which means that taxes will go up, eating up the higher wage to pay for more entitlements. Vicious circle. Wish the low wage earners would understand economics.

Pay mandates are simply price controls. We should just as incensed at “minimum wages” as we would be if the government told us that we must charge $XXX for every product in our store.

It will not he hard to replace human cashiers with kiosks at any fast-food place. They already have a POS system, just need a pretty customer friendly UI. Put a large touch screen where the registers are and now you can have multiple people order at once with only one person watching 4+ registers.

It will speed up the order process as customers don’t have to wait in line with only one open register. Good going idiots, you make your job irrelevant.

I’m going to settle with it probably sounded good to the average LIV as not being greedy or unreasonable. Or it’s what the unions wanted.

Yep, a bunch of snowflakes graduating from college who have never earned a honest day’s wage, suddenly will be trying to join the workforce.

If I were running for office, I’d run on $100,000 per hour minimum wage!

I mean why stop at $15 if raising minimum wage has no effect on jobs?

if people with no education and little responsibility can get $15 an hr, shouldn’t those with skill, education, and responsibility get a big pay increase?

Looking forward to 10 dollar Big Macs.

Have you ever researched this? What part does the retail price of food at McDonald goes to labor? It is a well know stat. Do you care or do you just want to continue to look stupid.

If everybody makes a minimum of $15 in every state, then prices will rise to accommodate that new ‘minimum’. Then they’ll be right back where they started..............IDIOTS..................

The cost of goods manufacturing and imported to the USA are not affected by US wages one way or another.

You have answered your question.

Union Wages and Federal Wages are based on the minimum wage.

Great point. But suspect that those that support the minimum wage and other restrictive employment policies would probably be jubilant if prices on everything were set by the government.

$15 minimum wage = fewer jobs. Asked supervisor if that came to WI what would happen - answer: hire fewer people.

U3 rate rises as people start to look for those promised $15 jobs and then falls to near Zero when they all stop looking upon discovering they the jobs do not exist.
