They battled it out over the course of the primary season. We had an initial field of 17 in this one.

This makes it even more important. With that many in the primaries, until late, it is good to know that the top guy is really the preferred candidate. If Trump is the preferred candidate, then he'll close the deal in the next two weeks. If he does that, it will all be moot. Given his inability to get way from the 7th grade school yard nonsense, and begin to act presidential (which would have closed the deal and allowed him to unify the party), he chose to go into the gutter like an egocentric loudmouth with a short fuse. Only Trump is responsible for sending this into overtime, not Cruz.

If Kasich would exit the race, the gap would shrink and the race would begin to look more and more like '76. The best thing Trump has going for him right now -- until he can learn to control his mouth and his Twitter feed -- is having Kasich in the race.

Your crystal ball is no better than anyone else's. Given that fact, you don't mind if we allow the process to play out, do you? Again, if Trump is so much more preferred than Cruz, he will show us in the remaining primaries and win this without question. If he can't then he has no one to blame but himself. I don't think the party picks the fresh face to run as it will kill the candidates down the ticket and in local and state races as well. The party may be run by a bunch of dirtbags, but they won't allow the party to go Kamikaze. The GOPe can do whatever they want on the floor to deny the candidate with the most delegates the nomination. I don't believe the party is suicidal and this is simply posturing. I may be wrong but I hope not. It does make for a good argument to demonize Trump's competition though..."get out for the good of the country" etc.. That very same thing was told to Reagan in '76 but he didn't listen. I'm glad he didn't because he never would have been able to make that speech that put everyone on notice about his plans in '80.

What exactly does it mean to "act presidential"? You mean like Obama, Bill Clinton, LBJ, or JFK? Forget about appearances and image, these a$$holes didn't act like Presidents. They were slime balls committing all kinds of personal and official offenses. One was impeached and another should have been. They shamed the office. What has Trump done compared to them? Or compared to Hillary who should be in jail?

Trump is not a politician. He does not act or speak like one. It is one of the reasons for his popularity. He will not allow people to attack him without responding. Trump has a name recognition of 92 compared to Hillary's 94. No one else in the field comes close. Why? Trump is a celebrity who has been in people's homes for 14 years as a TV persona. They think they know him. The political consultants are horrified yet Trump continues to win.

Trump can't unify the GOP. They have to unify around him. It is difficult because the GOPe wants to stop Trump from getting the nomination. They don't agree with his positions on immigration and trade.

If Kasich would exit the race, the gap would shrink and the race would begin to look more and more like '76. The best thing Trump has going for him right now -- until he can learn to control his mouth and his Twitter feed -- is having Kasich in the race.

Kasich is hurting Trump in places like the Northeast and the Midwest and in CA and the Northwest. If it is between just Trump and Cruz in those places, Trump wins easily. So-called moderate Reps support Trump over Cruz. It will be interesting to see if Trump can get over 50% in NY. Cruz failed to get 50% in Texas and Kasich failed to get 50% in Ohio.

The GOP is not called the Stupid Party for nothing. They would rather lose an election than outsider to win. The case in the VA governor's race was a perfect example. Ken Cuccinelli was torpedoed by his own party.

It is up to Trump's competition to do what is best for the party and the people. They won't get out because they want to sabotage the process at the behest of the GOPe. If someone other than Trump is the nominee, the GOP will go down to defeat in 2016. The Trump voters will exit the process in a heartbeat.

Given the rapidly changing demographics of the country fueled by mass immigration and minority birthrates, the Dems are on the cusp of becoming the permanent majority party, if they are not already. The Reps have lost the popular vote in 5 out of the last 6 elections. It is a dying party that needs to stop doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. Trump brings populism and nationalism, something not seen a GOP candidate for a long time. Jeff Sessions sees it and so do I.
