Your comment reminded me of the time I came home for lunch and saw a roofing crew tearing apart my roof when they should have been working on the neighbors roof.

I called up to them to let them know, but the man who I guessed was crew leader kept saying they spoke no English. (Probably had more to do with me being a woman, but I digress).

I hate heights and I hate climbing ladders, but I got out the ladder, drug it over to the side of the house and climbed up on the roof with the crew.

Of course, they all stopped and were staring at me with amused expressions, and the same guy said once again that they spoke no English.

My reply, in a graduated tone of voice was “Well, this is MY HOUSE and Someone Up Here Had BETTER LEARN ENGLISH REAL QUICK OR I'M CALLING THE POLICE!"

It was amazing how quickly they learned to speak English. We sorted it out and, of course they had to repair my roof for free.

My buddy had his roof redone by a Mexican crew.

They all had Ohio plates on their vehicles. He asked them, and it turned out they DID drive all the way in from Ohio each morning.

They told him they did not like living in PA because you can’t buy beer in the 7-elevens here. They like to start their day in the parking lot of a 7-eleven with a case of cold cervezas before starting their day as day labor.
