Denying Sexual Reality in North Carolina
Townhall.com ^ | April 7, 2016 | Steve Chapman

Some residents of North Carolina don't like the idea of sharing restrooms with transgender men and women, and they were pleased to learn that, thanks to a new law, they won't have to. I have news for them: They already have. They just didn't know it. And they will again.

In February, the Charlotte City Council approved an ordinance strengthening protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identification. It included a provision stipulating that transgender men may use men's restrooms and transgender women may use women's restrooms.

That provision brought on a hailstorm of fury and disbelief, and the North Carolina Legislature quickly passed a bill to overrule it. The Charlotte ordinance "defies common sense and basic community norms," said Gov. Pat McCrory on signing the state law.

"We've had these proper etiquette situations for decades in our country," he argued, "and all of a sudden, through political correctness, we're throwing away basic etiquette." Under the new policy, North Carolinians will have to use the restroom corresponding to the sex denoted on their birth certificates.

"No Men in Women's Bathrooms," read one of the signs brandished by opponents of the Charlotte measure. That sounds like a good reason to reject it -- if you don't think very hard.

Under the new state law, a woman who undergoes sex change surgery, takes hormones and has a penis, a deep voice and facial hair will be required to use the women's restroom. In the name of protecting daughters from unwanted male intruders, the Legislature and governor are exposing them to exactly that. Men, meanwhile, will have to share facilities with people wearing skirts and lipstick.

This policy will cause far more discomfort than it will prevent. What McCrory and others forget is that transgender men generally go unnoticed in men's restrooms, for the simple reason that they appear to be men. In fact, the odds are very good that at one time or another, you have unwittingly done your business alongside someone who is transgender -- with no ill effects.

Even in North Carolina, that will keep happening. If someone with breasts and long hair enters a women's restroom, strangers usually won't realize this person was born with a full set of testicles. If a muscular, bearded person in a suit strides up to a urinal, the guys at the others aren't going to ask for proof he is a male. In these cases, ignorance is bliss.

What will generate problems is transgender people's obeying the North Carolina law. But that may not happen often. It's not as though anyone has a clue how to enforce this mandate. Without a cop stationed at every entrance demanding birth certificates, most transgender people will probably go on doing as they've done, invisibly, in the past.

The oft-stated fear is that male child molesters will dress up as women to find girls to victimize. But what's stopping them from doing that now?

And where is the epidemic of abuse where transgender people are allowed to choose restrooms? The liberal watchdog group Media Matters for America contacted law enforcement officials and other experts in 12 states and found none who was aware of any such incidents.

McCrory thinks all we need to do is uphold "basic community norms." But the traditional norm for people with gender dysphoria has been to deny, suppress or hide their true nature -- so that everyone else could operate in comfortable denial.

The traditional norm these people could expect if they were found out has been hostile and often violent. This week, a Brooklyn man pleaded guilty to manslaughter for killing a 21-year-old transgender woman. He had been flirting with her, and when he found out she was not exactly what he assumed, he flew into a rage and beat her to death.

Barring transgender people from the restrooms they prefer exposes them to harm by exposing something they may want to be secret: that they are transgender. In addition, a lawsuit filed against the North Carolina law noted, "if a transgender woman were to use the men's restroom, she likely would be harassed and might be assaulted by men who believed that she should not be in the men's restroom." Transgender men emerging from women's restrooms may incur violence from angry fathers or husbands.

The North Carolina law makes perfect sense if you're willing to pretend that transgender people don't exist. Too bad they won't cooperate.

by chapman’s logic, the people with “issues” who think they are cats should be allowed to use a litter box in public.

So he says that things have been working just fine before any explicit bathroom laws were passed, then why not leave things alone?

Instead the queers want to expand it so that a man who dresses like a man and looks like a man can go into a women’s facility make the women very uncomfortable simply because he claims that at that moment he happens to “feel” he’s a woman.

What we often do in Indiana (after surveying the general tenor of a place) if we really have to use the restrooms is this:

My wife goes in to the women's room and checks to see that no one is inside. Our women folk (family) go into the restroom, always supplied with adequate disinfecting products.

I (and my sons, if with us) stand outside the women's room and guard the door. When women approach, we state that the room is full (which is true in most restaurants, because we have a large family), but that it will be available momentarily.

When our women folk emerge, it is obvious that we weren't deceiving any one.

No one has ever complained.

I would like to see where he gets his numbers supporting the idea there are more women with surgically attached penises than there are men or women who simply dress to appear as the opposite sex.

“Some residents of North Carolina don’t like the idea of sharing restrooms with transgender men and women,”

A couple mistakes right off the bat. It’s not some but the vast majority. Also it’s not just restroom but any facility including showers, dressing rooms, etc.

Segregated bathrooms are there so there is no possibility of copulation in a bathroom, so no one can get pregnant in a bathroom, and in most cases, so no one is sexually attracted to the other people in the bathroom.

It is not about ‘preference’.

It is about protecting our kids and spouses from being exposed to the other sex, or being sexually assaulted.

There is this utopian idea that a ‘transgender’ magically changed sex and is only attracted to the gender they don’t purpose to be. That is not true. First of all, what we are now calling ‘transgenders’ are not, since they have not had an operation yet, they are transvestites, people in drag. That means that they are confused about their sexuality and are very likely bisexual as well.

I don’t want a full grown man in drag, being in the same bathroom as our girlfriends, spouses, daughters. The same with a full grown woman praying on teenage boys, or displaying her body to them in a bathroom.

The current laws are not ‘human rights’ they are ‘institutionalized sexual assault’ and should be stopped.

Like I said in an other thread on the same subject a couple of weeks ago that they should just do it like they do it in a Doctor’s office where there is only one bath room. You go in and lock the door and the next person has to wait until you come out. Problem solved

TransGenderism and TransFelinism emanate from the same mentally ill perspective.

No, because the freaks will always find a way to be offended or opposed. And besides, why should the rest of us be inconvenienced to accommodate them?

But then does that mean we have to retrofit every public restroom everywhere, just to make the LGBT peoples and liberals happy???

Exactly the point I have made at every opportunity.

If that's the case and I have no doubt it has...

What's the point of the ordinance??

I'll answer.
So they can be exhibitionists about it. Flaunt it .

But the ordinance goes beyond transgender dressing. It allows anyone to use any bathroom depending what sex they feel they are that day. Even less restrictions than that. And to that add locker rooms, dressing rooms.

By the BGLTQWERTY crowd bringing this up they’ve opened a can of worms.
Had they left this alone no one would have been the wiser, but no they desperately want their lifestyle to be accepted.
Welcome to the ‘silent majority’ drawing the line.

Yes, men dressed as women have been using women’s bathrooms for years. You can usually tell by the size of the shoe with the high heels. Their makeup frequently gives it away too. Never had a problem.

The other night I was in a restaurant and a number of ‘women’ with big feet and wigs walked by. When I went to the (female only) women’s room I walked by their table. There were 10 or 11 men dressed as women having dinner. The hostess had placed them in the back of the restaurant.

That’s very different from letting random men into the locker rooms, bathrooms, and showers.

This is too stupid for a normal human mind to dream up.

Because .01 percent of the population might walk into your women’s bathroom with a sewn on penis, because they’re really a woman, Americans should want men permitted to walk into women’s restrooms.

Do I have that right?

What kind of ignoramus dreams this stuff up?

Bruce Jenner, by the way, is still walking around with all his equipment, and he’s still claiming that he’s a lesbian...in other words, attracted to females sexually.

Who’d a thunk it?

Thank you for pointing out this fact. I get attacked all the time when I say a Libertarian is just a fiscal conservative with no morals. This demonstrates exactly that. I've tried to be a Libertarian several times, but it always comes back to some cockamamie idea of legal dope, gay marriage, dead babies, and now queers in the bathroom.

It's becoming the prominent system in the media. If you watch FNC, almost all of them will eventually show they are for gay marriage, abortion, legal drugs, ect. You may have even liked their positions on foreign policy or tax structure but then it spews out of their pie hole about "What I do doesn't affect you in any way". I'm sick of having to explain why 2 men are kissing to my daughter. It DOES affect me and my family. When a drug pusher gives an "8 ball" to your daughter, many Libertarians might think differently about drugs, but then it's too late. As you get older and wise, you get more conservative. A Libertarian is NOT a conservative. Ergo, Ron Paul and Rand Paul fizzling out with less than 5%. They may have won if they ran as a Dem.
