Trump/Rubio 2016. The race to 1066.

OK. So Trump looks like he might end up a few delegates short of 1237. Maybe, maybe not. If he were to offer the VP to Rubio, in exchange for his 171 delegates, he the would only need to get to 1066. He freezes out Cruz, he freezes out Kasich and rewards them for their machinations with a loss. He solidifies his vote in Florida by adding Cuban American voters and other Rubio supporters. He wins back some of the disaffected fedgov employees of NOVA that went for Rubio and improves his chances in VA. He somewhat assuages the establishment. He can also name Rubio as "immigration czar" and help his numbers with Hispanics. Rubio will be out of government next year without his Senate seat, but if he is VP he will become the President of the Senate and the deciding vote in some cases. Rubio will jump at the chance to be the VP, imho. Cruz and Kasich hung around in a cynical attempt to keep Trump from 1237, while Marco bowed out gracefully and did the honorable thing. I think this is a win, win for both men. Trump must win on the first ballot. It would be much easier with Rubio's delegates.

Strategically, if it means win or lose, if there is no other way. And I liked him in the beginning, he was good looking, but then all the stuff started coming out, personal and political, and I crossed him off my list.

Having Marco on the ticket might be better than Hillary or Sanders.

I know he's pro-amnesty and can't be trusted, but I think we are to a point where we can't be too picky. Trump is no conservative, as I understand conservatism, but if he can turn some things around (RINO or Dem Congress will fight him on about everything), or just stop the bleeding, I'm in for him.

Rubio’s delegates are not his chattel. After the first vote, they are unbound and can vote for whichever candidate they choose.

I can’t see Trump with his ego giving the VP to Kasich when he stayed in the race after he was mathmatically eliminated just to try and deny the win to Trump.

He, Rubio, can release them, plead with them, offer them Trump Bucks, it doesn’t matter.

They are Americans.

They will wait till Kasich promises everyone a mailman job.

How about on the first vote. Can Rubio direct them to vote Trump?

Two problems

No way Marco wants to be associated with Trump

Secondly that's not the way the delegates work. The delegates do what they want not what the candidate wants. So if the option is Cruz or Trump, there are not a lot of Rubio supporters who are going to pick Trump. And Kasich’s delegates are no way going to Trump even if you pick Kasich as VP.

You need to understand if Trump does not have 1237 going in to the convention, Cruz wins.

Ah, indeed. I’m sure the possibility has crossed the Trump team’s minds?

Rubio is also liked in the Senate, so he satisfy one of Trump’s VP requirement. He want an insider who could get along with people in Congress to get bill passed

You need to understand that is your guess of what might happen.

Going to study the convention rules to see if a candidate can direct their delegates to vote a certain way on the first vote...

I agree. Bill O’Reilly (and perhaps others) is already floating the theory that Cruz will offer Kasich the VP slot well before the convention, locking in his 143 delegates and narrowing the gap between him and Trump.

If Trump were to accept Liddle Marco (”who is actually a nice guy”) it would neutralize Cruz’s move and make it much easier to get 1237 regardless of California.

Probably not Trumps #1 choice, but “it’s business”. Rubio has served in the Senate and he was the speaker of the Florida House, so he has the legislative expertize Trump has said he would want. He’s also young, Hispanic, and has a different personality type that could offset Trump’s style. Trump would win Florida without him, whereas Kasich as VP would be a plus in swing-state Ohio.

Ironically this means the #3 and #4 candidates have a lot more power than they deserve!

“The Battle of Hastings?”

My reaction exactly. Do we really want to go back there?

The only entity that can is the state or National perty.

In Illinois, for example, Trump picked the actual delegates when he won. In some states the delegate would be loyal to the candidate.

I’d just as soon not have an ineligible Cuban on the ticket, but if we have to have one, Cruz at least says he opposes amnesty.

Putting any amnesty pimps on the ticket would be shooting out your own tires.

Trump doesn’t need help in FL, if he’s going the losing candidate route, stategicaly he should choose Kasich, gotta win FL and OH. Thought that may cost him some votes else where.

The tens of millions of young disenfranchised Bernie voters are low hanging fruit for a young charismatic ethnic candidate

Bernie and hillary both look ooooold

Ithink rubio gives trump the best path to win and maybe trump can school him in coming to work and getting things done
