Same here. I enjoy sending articles (many of which I get from here!). Thank you FR, you've made me popular.
But I rarely bother people with cutesy stuff like pics of cats or the incredible news that I just did my laundry. Maybe it's "my crowd," alas, but there seem to be a lot of people in need of validation.
I have been on FB for years but I never post personal info. I use to get a lot of notices asking my hometown. The people who know me know where I live and no one else matters. I think people who post about going out of town are asking for trouble. I may post when I get home but that is not very often. No one cares about my meals, what I did that day, etc. They are too busy.
I have reconnected with several buddies I knew in the navy using facebook. Some of them I haven’t seen in 30 years. I belong to several navy related groups and we have fun swapping memories and sea stories.
I switched to a private (inaccessible to the public) WordPress blog as a way of communicating with people I care about on a day-to-day basis, and I would encourage anyone who has a Facebook to use WordPress instead if they dislike or distrust email. Anyone who refuses to leave Facebook based on “convenience” is complacent in helping Zuckerberg make money and push illegal criminals on us.
Who in their right mind want to hang out all their laundry for everybody else to see.
“I share the bare minimum. I only go there 1-2x a week. Its a shame. If private and run by decent humans it could have been a great communication tool. But It isnt.”
Yep. I hit is about once a month. My wife is on it constantly, but is it business related, not personal. She “moderates” several groups there. But that is the only reason I hit it once a month... Otherwise, it is not worth it.
I don’t even share my real name on Facebook. LOL.
And no mention of their political biases or how involved they get in dem elections. Or the blatant censoring they do, naturally all in OTHER countries.
I believe people in their 60s shouldn’t be nudists. Other than that, you should be able to do anything you like. :-)
Facebook is just a libtard stomping ground. People I hated in high school are bigger liberal douche-nozzles today than they were as teenagers. Eff’m all!
“And yet now HR types are demanding that employees have Facebook accounts to show that they are social. It is not enough to be on LinkedIn. No Facebook, no job. “
I have never heard of a job that required one to have a FB account. If it did, I would pass on it. Work has nothing to do with “social media”.
I think it will turn into a landslide.
Why?
I initially signed up to connect with my four kids. None go there on even a weekly basis and two have abandoned the accounts.
I go now to keep track of a legal matter I am following.
The rest of FB is ads, posts of new babies and kids for grandmas, and more ads pretending to be posts. Nothing interesting. The average age seems to be about 40 to 65.
Dull stuff.
Breitbart stupidly dropped disqus to have posts of FB. No more comments on breitbart for me.
There have been some articles about this in the Wall Street Journal and other publications.
Closed my account the day Obama got reelected. Couldn’t stand the smug idiots.
I don’t have a Facebook account. The whole idea is repugnant to me.
I opened an account about 4 years ago. After two years of not messing with it, and seeing that anyone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone can as to be let in, I decided to close it. FR is plenty of “socializing” for me.
That thread is from a couple of years ago. Facebook et al got wise and rejected those phone numbers after a while. I suspect the same will eventually be true of your link, but thanks!
