As you may have heard by now, it was a murder - suicide. The victim was a the commander of the K-9 training unit. The shooter murdered him then took his own life. The authorities had trouble knowing if the shooter was still out there because the shooter literally blew his head off and it was difficult identifying him.

So it's over now except for the cleanup.

LOL, probably did...I am getting older now, and the old stories are getting repeated!

Heh, you know it is bad when you preface everything with “I know I have probably told you before...” and then go ahead and tell it again!

from yahoo news comment section:

I was in the lock down at Lackland from what I heard the victim is a K-9 unit Commander, the identity of the shooter isn’t released but this is not a terrorist attack. Isolated incident.

The identities of the victims have not been released, but according to “initial internal Pentagon communications obtained by the Air Force Times, the commanding officer of the 341st K-9 Training Squadron at the base was shot by an airman.”

From what I recall from living on lackland for almost a year the base security isn’t all that great. We used to step over a barb wire fence to go off/on base. Sure made the trip to the pancake house a lot shorter.

In the early '70s a friend and I decided to visit a closed down Nike base in RI or southeastern MA, can't remember. We tied the barbed wire at the top of the chain link fence and climbed over. Walked over a hill and saw a whole bunch of uniformed folks in formation. We retreated quickly.

Depends on the base and location. It should be the military (however it is not always), local law enforcement should not have any jurisdiction on military installations. Their presence should only be in support per request of the military police.

I agree. Respect for the dead comes first, but it is important politically.

Trump is the only one who mentioned the inability of soldiers to defend themselves on US bases. If he gets a bump from this, all the better, for the better his chance to get in the WH and end the PC crap.

Also not cool. But I am dismayed a Freeper would encourage that kind of crassness.

State has first jurisdiction on bases. They are also first responders. If fed laws apply as well the state and fed prosecutors will work out who files what with state courts going first. NEVER a good idea to be violent on a base. The locals, feds and military can all respond due to the jurisdictional overlap. Charges can be filed and sentences served for both jurisdictions.

Also, depends on the crime from what I recall. I believe the military gets first position on charges and then locals do as a general rule.

Unless its in another country and then the agreement will determine. In some foreign countries the local govt will get first choice to prosecute for major crimes. Many times they’ll defer to the military but on high profile cases they prosecute.

The cases in Korea and Japan are examples.

For us it was a choice of walking 2 miles round trip to go through the gate, or 100 yds to jump the fence.

The cops pretended they didn’t see us and we pretended not to be there.

It was convenient but not all that secure. Doesn’t appear to be the issue in this case.

“To be fair, Cruz was commenting on Belgium and connecting it to Trump’s comments on NATO before the dead were even removed and identified.”

Cruz comments were about Trump’s naïveté in light of the Belgium attacks.

“The seemed to me something seriously wrong with members of the military running to a bathroom and hiding in it because someone had a gun.”

All part of the feminization of the military.

Bring back the warrior mystique.
