All the polls show Cruz doing a heck of a lot better against Clinton than Trump.
The last one, McClatchy/Marist on Thursday had Clinton beating Trump by 9 while Cruz ties her.
But the Trump people only believe the polls they like.

Given the strength that Trump has shown with Independents and Libertarians, the only way those polls make sense is if a whole lot of conservatives decide to give the race away by staying home.

The GOP will split if Trump doesn’t win the nomination. OK now I will read the article.

Conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer...”

That’s sort-of hilarious. Fox News did an hour-long special about CK’s life a year or two ago. He said that even after Obama was elected he wasn’t sure what kind of a president he would be. (WE all knew; why didn’t this alleged “genius” know?) He was eager to meet Obama at a dinner given by George Will in Obama’s honor at Will’s house to find out more about him. (Didn’t WE know “all about him” in 2007-2008? How could CK be so open minded?)

You’re conflating the rule which govern the electors in the general election, with the rules which govern delegates in the primaries.

The rules that govern the electors come from our Constitution. The rules that govern convention delegates are pulled from the nether regions of the Republican party honchos.

I don't think polls about a general election that's still 7 months away mean anything at all. Most people have an attention span of about 2 weeks when it comes to elections... the picture will change once there are only 2 nominees running against each other.

And we don’t want a lying, sneak who can’t win the primaries but has to do attempt to highjack the nomination by stealing delegates instead of winning them.

The problem with your statement is that "stealing" unbound delegates in primaries is like stealing bases in a baseball game - it's part of the game. The delegates Cruz is "stealing" are the one that are not bound to vote for anyone and are free to choose. Trump is supposed to understand the (complicated and nonsensical, but still clearly written) rules of the primaries and (1) have delegates in every district, and (2) recruit unbound delegates to support him. If the author of The Art of the Deal cannot close the sale with even a few unbound delegates, he's not the person he claims to be.

I want Trump to be the nominee, but I want him to win under the rules as they are currently written. If Trump doesn't hire the experts he needs to understand our stupid primary system, what makes you think he will hire the experts he needs to understand the rare parts of diplomatic nonsense that actually matter, once he is in the White House? If Trump cannot learn the rules well enough to beat Cruz in a GOP primary, what makes you think he will pay any better attention in the general election when he faces a corrupt expert who specializes in genuine vote fraud, like Hillary?

Trump is the only genuinely conservative candidate in the only way that truly matters. His isolationist (eg non-liberal interventionist) posture goes back to the last genuinely conservative Republican Presidential candidate - Robert A Taft. Back then the liberal interventionists marginalized Taft to enable empire builder Ike Eisenhower to become President.

“No, we would have voted for Cruz if he won the majority of the delegates and not attempted to highjack the nomination by keeping Trump from winning the majority and winning a convention fight.”

Regardless of who wins the nomination, that person will be the first one to a majority of delegates. Considering Trump’s past actions, I have little doubt that if the tables were turned, Trump would be out to “high-jack” the convention.

“It will be the Cruz supporters who elect Hillary, not us.”

Just like all the conservatives who didn’t show up to vote against Obama? How’d that work out for you? Personally, I will blame anyone who does not show up on election day and vote for the republican nominee. Doesn’t matter who that is, that person will be better than Hillary. I just do not understand how anyone could face themselves knowing they could have done more to stop her.

So you must be OK with those who would not vote for Trump for the same reason.

A lot of us are wondering that.

“So I’m guessing then that you have no problem with those who say they would never vote for Trump, since they believe the same thing you believe, just with the other candidate.”

The difference is that I’m right, and they would be wrong. Trump DOES have cross-over appeal and appeals to more than just the far right.

But if someone feels about Trump the way I feel about Cruz - yes, I would have no trouble with them following their conscience. Whoever we support, we should have learned our lesson by now that pulling the lever for someone we don’t really like accomplishes nothing except to make us feel regret somewhere down the line.

The GOP will split if Trump doesn’t win the nomination.

And the GOP will probably split if he does. Either way, advantage Democrats.

I’m with you and if they cheat him I’ll write him in. Kraut finally nails it. Cruzers wont vote for him either so RNC is going to lose big unless Trump gets 1237.
