Sorority ditches Kentucky Derby party over "racial connotations"
Fox News.com ^ | April 8 | Todd Starnes

There will not be a Kentucky Derby party at Dartmouth College this year because some students allege that one of the nation’s most prestigious horse races is racist.

And fair warning – before reading further you might want to make a batch of Mint Juleps. You’re going to need it.

Back in 2015, a group of Black Lives Matter protestors targeted an exclusive Kentucky Derby party hosted by the ladies of Kappa Delta Epsilon – calling the event overtly racist and “recreating an Antebellum South atmosphere on the Ivy League campus.”

The protestors accused the party of being a “bastion of racism, exclusion and oppression.” They chanted, “What is Derby? It’s the face of genocide” and “What is Derby? It’s the face of police brutality.”

I searched The New York Times archives and could find no evidence of police brutality at the Derby – nor could I find any evidence of ethnic cleansings.

I can only imagine the angst and soul searching among the fragile Ivy League snowflakes as they contemplated the grave offense they had caused to the perpetually-offended, hashtag protesters.

A Kentucky Colonel who was being honored with a bronze bust dedicated in his honor was approached by a gorgeous Southern belle who cooed, “Colonel, Ah just wants you to know that Ah’ve traveled for miles to see your bust unveiled.”

He graciously replied, “Madam, I would gladly return the compliment!”

I went to the Derby in 1974 ( I think). I was offended by a classmate climbing up the infield flagpole naked -— streaking was all the rage. Google it — the perp was Rocky Friend.

I was also offended by a strip poker game that I stumbled upon. What offended me was that when this 18 year old girl lost a final hand, she stood up to pull down her panties and the crowd was so unruly, I was pressed by the mob that had gathered and lost my front row position to the mob.

Then there was Mike Bass from Dayton. A black guy that I ran into who had stolen from me when I employed him. Ruined my day to see him there.

Never saw any horses. Princess Margaret from Great Britain was there. A girl in our group named Maggie who worked for a printer began referring to herself as Printress Margaret.

Tried a mint julep. It was offensive. Saw a group of guys bring CASES of beer over the wall, only to be caught by the police... Like a scene from
Animal House. I was offended.

All in all, the Kentucky Derby was not for a bunch of liberal SJW sorority girls.

Those who ignore history are dumb and ignorant. I wonder if anyone bothered to notice that the first winner of the Derby was a black man.

According to my search, the first Kentucky Derby was held in 1875.

They use the word antebellum, but I do not think it means what they think it means.

Oh dear... they didn't use one of these as props for the party, did they?

If you’re going to be at an outdoor event in warm, humid weather and there is expectation of dressing for the occasion, it’s going to eventually default to something that looks a lot like genteel southern. The sundresses and hats for women, the light colored suits for men. Even the beverage of choice is meant to be cooling. Kentucky was a border state, didn’t have much of a plantation culture at all. To the extent that actual southerners have attended the Kentucky Derby, they were a sort of entourage with many of the horses raced there. It’s an event that became identified with the antebellum south even though it’s not all that southern and certainly not antebellum. It just picked up the trappings of it along the way due to the nature of the event for one, and the nature of many of the attendees for another.

Those black lawn jockey have an interesting history...

They were first used as “markers” for the underground railroad in the north to let runaway slaves know what type of safe house it is...

I guess more Mint Julep for the rest of us.

Seriously, WHO IN THE HELL CARES if some snotty, elitist brats in New Hampshire want to celebrate a famous horse race HUNDREDS of miles away??

After all, the race was giving these stuck-up BRATS a reason to party and lye on their backs on a Saturday night......as if they weren’t going to do that to begin with anyways??

There’s just one minor flaw in Kappa Delta Epsilon’s reasoning – the first running of the Kentucky Derby was held in 1875 – during Reconstruction...actually not "Antebellum" but "Postbellum" and at about the same time the Democrat party was advertising itself in the south as "The White Man's Party".....

We need to join them, and go even further, because cars, computers, A/C, you get the idea-almost every contribution to civilisation-is an oppressive white male discovery or invention. They need to give up modern medicne-heck, they need to give up their places in college to some worthy minorities.

I’m gettng really tired of these petty dictators who won’t be so petty and easily blown-off once they’re running things. Apropos, we need to point to the white ones that they are joining the oppressive establishment they want to pull down by getting those jobs, and leave them to the minorities.

They also need to house, under their own roofs, the rapefugees they want brought to the US, and feed and clothe them, at their own (not taxpayer) expense.

Heck, they need to wear grass skirts and loin cloths, because most fabrics we use were developed by oppressive whites.

We need to not let them pick and choose, and then foist it off on the rest of us-we need to shove it down their, and only their, throats.

I’m about to put one in my yard, just as my own personal protest against these little Stalins. I’m sick of them, and about to start being very materially reactionary to them.

Yes, they’re trying to enact their very own Cultural Revolution. IIRC, it was also the youth in China who made the perfect tools of the totalitarian state to use against people, because younger people are easily indoctrinated, like to feel important through “causes” (and the only ones whose causes can get any traction in the sexy media are leftist ones), and because they’re so smugly self-righteous and intolerant and convinced that they’re right and have the right to dictate to the rest of us. I just wish some would come to my door, but I don’t really live in that kind of area-yet.
