AUSTIN, Texas - New details are emerging about a homeless 17-year-old who will be charged with murder in the death of a University of Texas dance major in the heart of the bustling campus, police say.
Meechaiel Criner wasn't believed to be a university student and hadn't been living in Austin long. Police Chief Art Acevedo said Friday that Criner could face additional charges in the slaying of 18-year-old Oregon native Haruka Weiser.

CBS News correspondent David Begnaud reported surveillance video showed the suspect following the victim, reaching into his back pocket and pulling out what was described in the arrest warrant as "a shiny rigid object."

The suspect's grandmother told CBS affiliate KSLA that Criner had been under psychiatric care since he was a child. She described him as a well-mannered kid until someone made him mad -- and then he'd snap.

I did read the article. Nowhere does it say they didn’t know one another. So it might have been random thuggishness or it might not have. Any connection might have existed almost entirely in his warmed mind (WhoTF names a child “Meechaiel” anyway?), but it still could have been something less than totally random BLM violence.

These stories are always very, very difficult to read; but this one is really getting to me...a beautiful, talented, and intelligent young woman. Dead. Now, we get to feed, clothe, and house the monster responsible for her death. Yay, how fun is that?
