GOP Elites' Delusional Plan for Cleveland
World Net Daily ^ | 4/10/15 | Pat Buchanan

Posted on 04/11/2016 8:18:27 AM PDT by ek_hornbeck

After winning only six delegates in Wisconsin, and with Ted Cruz poaching delegates in states he has won, like Louisiana, Donald Trump either wins on the first ballot at Cleveland, or Trump does not win. Yet, as that huge, roaring reception he received in his first post-Wisconsin appearance in Bethpage, New York, testifies, the Donald remains not only the front-runner, but the most exciting figure in the race.

Moreover, after the New York, New England, mid-Atlantic and California primaries, Trump should be within striking distance of the 1,237 delegates needed for the nomination.

He will then have to persuade uncommitted delegates to back him, and perhaps do a deal with one of the defeated candidates, Marco Rubio or John Kasich, to win the remaining few needed to go over the top.

The RNC and the rest of the GOP establishment have no intention of letting Cruz get the nomination in a brokered convention any more than they will allow a brokered convention to go to Trump. By round two or three, the "freed" delegates will revoke the 8-state minimum win bylaw and will nominate one of their candidates of choice (Ryan gets mentioned a lot, but I'm convinced that they really want Mitt or Jeb).

They will defend their move with the claim that they're backing an "electable" candidate in the general election. In fact, this will guarantee a landslide loss, because millions of Republican voters just won't show up for the general election if they're stuck with a candidate who nobody or virtually nobody voted for in the primaries. I think that the RNC knows this, and they will still go this route because they'd rather see Hillary Clinton win the Presidency than allow anyone not annointed by them to be the GOP nominee.

He makes a good point at the end: with Trump, there are now three identifiable segments of the Republican Party: the traditional conservatives led by Cruz, the nationalist-populists led by Trump, and the moderates led by Kasich. They’re at each other’s throats right now, but if they were united and excited going into the general election, they would be tough to beat.

Buffalo NY is not a very long ride from Cleveland. What's my point? Lots of folks from Trump country are a short drive away.

I don't think I'm exaggerating with this thought: Would it be surprising if over a million Trump supporters showed up in Cleveland?

and with Ted Cruz poaching delegates in states he has won, like Louisiana

Pat Buchannan is a liar and propaganda machine. Ted Cruz did not pouch delegates that were entitle to Trump. He won at large delegates and Rubio delegates, that under Louisiana State LAW, became available when he suspended his campaign.

What Cruz did was to get loyalist elected as delegates but are still legally bound to vote for Trump and only become unbound under each STATE LAW!

However, I admit that at some point they can be unbound and can vote for Cruz but this is not stealing. Even Pat admits that Trump must convince at Large or Rubio or Kasich delegates to vote for him- is this stealing? Even worse, Pat is arguing to convince these delegates on the first ballot which is totally stealing and unlawful.

I WON’T SHOW UP TO VOTE IF THE RNC COOK THE BOOKS AND DENY THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE.

I am fast getting to the point of don’t care anymore. What is the point of it?

So if Trump convinces Kasich delegate to vote for him, is Trump stealing delegates? Will you post Kasich voters don’t count?

GOP cares about their gravy train, Hilary wont take away their gravy train, and allow them continuing to lie to their members to keep their power. Nothing will change.
Can they spell ‘ For the people, by the People ‘? ..... Ah...Ah... I guess not.
Nothing to see here... Go back to sleep.

United State is a corporation.

It is very unlikely that delegates loyal to Trump and Cruz won't together add up to a majority of the delegates. No one other than Trump or Cruz will be eligible to be nominated unless one of THEM agrees to that. Would Trump drop out so that someone he likes could be nominated? Maybe. Would Cruz? Doesn't seem likely.

Delegates pledged to Trump or Cruz aren't necessarily Trump supporters, they're just assigned to them following primaries and caucuses. Most (though not all) of them are just low-level party hacks who will vote for whoever the RNC tells them to vote for once they're unbound.

I can accept a Trump or a Cruz nomination. If Trump has an absolute majority and wins the first round, fine. If unbound delegates pick Cruz in the second or third round, fine. In

If unbound delegates repeal by-law 40 and pick someone who barely got any votes in the primaries (Bush or Rubio) or someone who didn't even run (Romney or Ryan), that's a spit in the face of everyone who voted in the primaries. The RNC may as well give us the middle finger and say "Vote all you like, suckers. You vote, we pick."

If it’s not the candidates with the most delegates the GOP will forever dead AND they will lose the house and senate.

And yours is a sentiment I echo.

However, Cruz is sounding and behaving more and more like a slimy lawyer every day.

Trump is just being Trump and I knew what he was when he started and accepted him for what he is.
