Despite Complaints, Delegate System Has Given Trump a 22 Percent Bonus NBC. April 11, 2016 BY ARI MELBER

Donald Trump blasted the GOP's delegate rules Sunday, saying a "corrupt" system is denying him delegates in states he won. According to a new NBC analysis, however, Trump has benefited far more than Ted Cruz under the party's arcane rules for allocating delegates.

Trump now leads the Republican field with 756 delegates — or 45 percent of all delegates awarded to date. Yet he has won about 37 percent of all votes in the primaries, according to the NBC analysis, meaning Trump's delegate support is greater than his actual support from voters.

For each percentage point of total primary votes that Trump has won, he has been awarded 1.22 percent of the total delegates.

In other words, as a matter of Republican Party math, Trump has been awarded a delegate bonus of 22 percent above his raw support from voters. By contrast, Cruz has been awarded about 1.14 percent of the delegates for each percentage point of votes he has won — a delegate bonus of 14 percent above his raw support.

Did you also point out that Cruz has gotten even less. Oh of course not.

Either Cruz is running away with Trump delegates because he’s a political mastermind, or Trump is getting bonus delegates.

Make up your minds you schizo Cruzlims: your greasy, tub-thumping, abs-of-flab, GOP-e spoiler can’t have it both ways.

Even more interesting is that Trump has barely increased his overall share of the vote even as the race has dwindled to three candidates.

Both are merely playing by the rules, Trump whines and stomps his feet like a child, Cruz just keeps grinding away.

Cruz has offices open in CA, Trump is whining, Cruz may win Ca Trump will whine about cheating. Trump hasn’t been boosting his voting % as the field has shrunk allowing Cruz to catch up.

However it appears Trump is fearful of falling short of a majority in NY, this will be a tough pill for him to swallow.

.....that little slick-headed Canuck knows he can't win w/ popular votes;
so he's conniving to get poached delegates he came nowhere near to winning.....

FReeper SHIVAFAN posted: "this freak Cruz and his disgusting delegate shenanigans with the despised GOPe, has me outraged - not only do I find this dysfunctional disenfranchise of the will of the people and their vote outrageous, but if it goes on, I will leave the Republican Party."

As for me, my gripe is con artist Cruz sees a "party rule" and connives to make it work only to HIS advantage. Crux is exactly the type of candidate the Framers of the Constitution wanted the new Nation to guard against.

Cruz is fond of using the anti-vote numbers against Trump...but Cruz never applies the anti-vote to himself.

If Trump won by staggering numbers....that means Cruz lost by staggering numbers..........many many more rejected Cruz than they did Trump.

Does this look like Trump was rejected?

Trump.....8,256,309.... 37.0 1%....758 delegates

Cruz......6,319,244....28.33%.....533 (plus all he can steal)

Cruz keeps losing and losing. About time he bows out gracefully and admit he lost. And he should stop finagling the numbers.

Caucus states gave Cruz more delegates that he deserved.

This whole nominating process for both democrats and their just as evil twins the republicans has really opened my eyes. What a load of horse shit. I don't care which goofball you support the system is fully and hopelessly corrupt. To say that voting matters to either major political party is laughable. We do not, nor have we the voter, ever mattered. This is all one big smoke and mirror game and never mind the men behind the curtain...

The most disgusting aspect of all of this is that over the last eight years the republicant party has done NOTHING but bend over and give the democrats every damn thing for which they have whined. If the republicant party spent just 10% of the effort they expend destroying their own on attacking the current "leaders" then maybe we wouldn't be in such a word of shit.

If nothing else I will be happy to see the republicant party die the death for which it has worked so hard.

90% of the time the delegate system is a formality. One of its purposes is to sort out plurality elections. May seem stupid, but on the other hand only 37% supports Trump. Not a recipe for victory. Contested convention is supposed to bring about a unity ticket just like coalition governments in Europe. Reagan tried this 1976 by declaring a moderate VP before first ballot. It backfired as it disenfranchised his base and FORD won but lost the general.

40 years later it would have worked, but Trump got nasty with all opponents and everyone is against him. Early on I thought we had a Trump/Cruz unity ticket but that horse has long left the barn.

"We are a Republic, not a central government!"

Exactly. I didn't hear any whining on this site when Gore beat Bush by millions of votes, and still lost the election.

Well explain the point then. Your point to me was that Trump got less than the majority of ballots cast, and that you pointed this out in an earlier post. However,t that reality is even greater when it comes to Cruz. I still am curious why you would make the point with one while ignoring the other who has garnered even less support form we the people.

No. My point is that Trump has proportionally more delegates than votes.

45% of the delegates and 37% of the votes.

Yep the system is rigged. Trump needs to give back those delegates. Winner-take-all is not fair and rigged to help Trump. How does 45% of the vote get 100% of the delegates! Unfair I tell you it’s unfair. Maybe you can say if you get +50% then you get all the delegates but not even getting 50% and taking home all the delegates is not democratic. Trump will be giving those delegates back I’m sure.

So what percentage of delegates to votes do Cruz have. I venture to say the same hold true for him and his is even higher. But of course you are not interested in what those figures are, and neither are the press. Because right now they are not after Cruz.
