Cruz Defends Against Trump's Claims of 'Rigged' Delegate System
NBC News ^ | April 12, 2016 | Vaughn Hillyard

Posted on 04/12/2016 8:02:50 PM PDT by reaganaut1

Ted Cruz rejected Donald Trump's claims that the GOP race is rigged, telling Glenn Beck on Tuesday that Trump will continue "to scream that they're stealing the election" as long as they continue to successfully wrangle delegates before a possible contested convention this summer.

"Apparently, when anyone votes against him, it's an act of theft," Cruz said on Beck's online radio show. He also told Beck the Trump campaign's "inability to even show up and win elections" makes it appear the front runner "can't run a lemonade stand."

"Donald, it ain't stealing when the voters vote against you -- it is the voters reclaiming this country and reclaiming sanity," Cruz told a San Diego crowd at a rally on Monday night.

In the last day, Cruz has hotly defended his campaign's efforts to send Cruz loyalists as delegates to this July's Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Cruz's campaign swept up each of Colorado's 34 GOP delegates last weekend at its state and congressional district conventions after a similarly strong outcome in North Dakota the week prior. And in states that have already held their primaries or caucuses - like Tennessee, Arizona and Iowa - the Cruz campaign has effectively positioned its own supporters as Trump delegates in preparation for a second or third ballot that would allow them to vote for Cruz.

Trump tweeted bafflement on Sunday about the system: "I win a state in votes and then get non-representative delegates because they are offered all sorts of goodies by Cruz campaign. Bad system!"

So now primary rules set by each sovereign state party are “tricks”?

The general public is perceiving it that way.

Reason ?

Most were not aware that there were different rules set by each sovereign state Party Leadership. Most were not aware that it is not an election process, it is a SELECTION process. The Party Leadership in each state is selecting a candidate. Your vote is really just to give them 'guidance'.

The people with the most influence, and whose votes are more of a determining factor, are the actual delegates.

The only question that should be asked is why, in a nation where the government insists that children must have a federally approved 'common core' curriculum and testing procedure , do we not have a UNIFORM selection procedure in each state ?

Sure, I understand it's rigged (done in the past to keep a candidate from messing with the establishment candidates), but why do we allow it ? Is it because most weren't even aware of the discrepancy ?

That is classy. Any wonder posts like this are ruining FR.

I thought it captured the revulsion most parents felt when they saw it. I feel sorry for his children. I hope their nanny is a good parental substitute.

Crus is smarter and better prepared having actually read the rules for each State’s process and planning accordingly. He invested the time and energy to create a superior ground game.

Well hell yes, even CNN knows that the voters in Colorado should be ignored, the flyover ignorant unwashed, uninformed rubes.

How long will you be here this time, and how many times have you begged to come back?

You should just stay over at Ted State where you belong, but after the Prozac wears off you’ll ride the lightning again.

Hopefully for the last time.

No it’s not...it’s all part of the message. He knows it’s not rigged and those are the rules. He knows Cruz’s ground game is better, but he is turning a deficiency into a strength. Watch him pound this topic all through the northeast, WV, Indiana and build the momentum for California.>>> you are correct but i did tweet d and tell him that whining doesn’t get votes policy does. i might be wrong.

He needs a ground game since people don’t actually VOTE for him.

Lawyers do what lawyers do - but now people are not only noticing it, but are fed up with attorneys like Ted.

Good post. It’s very much like the electoral college system of federalism. We’re not a pure democracy, which has served us well for 230 years. So I support the current state party system.

The only reason it’s being challenged today is that NOBODY trusts the GOPe and Mr. Trump is a political novice.
