Two women ran in Irans first official marathon on Saturday despite being banned by the authorities. The race, called I Run Iran, took in ancient landmarks such as the Gate of All Nations at Persepolis and attracted around 250 runners from 35 different countries, including 12 UK competitors. Hosting the countrys first big race like this open to foreigners was a really exciting project but organisers came in for some criticism as only men were allowed to race. (read more at link)

Iran held its first marathon today. Unfortunately, 10 Americans who had planned to race weren't able to make it, and as a gesture of friendship, the Iranian man in the picture carried the American flag across the finish line.
It's easy to get caught up and believe everything you hear from the media and those around you. But at the end of the day, we're all human. We strive to connect. For friendship and for love.

Interestingly, the first-ever Marathon—in 490 BC—had something to do with Iranians.
