A top Donald Trump adviser told House Republicans Thursday there's no need to worry about a contested Republican National Convention, promising to clinch the nomination outright in June.
In a private meeting on Capitol Hill, Trump aide Ed Brookover laid out a bullish road map for Trump to win by healthy margins in the upcoming primary states, starting in New York on Tuesday and concluding with a victory in California's June primary. Despite Trump's steep climb to win 1,237 delegates before the Cleveland convention, Brookover insisted a contested convention simply wouldn't happen and that Trump was on a "glide path" to the nomination. "The hard number is 1,237, and we think we're going to blow way past that," said Brookover, a long-time GOP political operative in Washington.
Rep. Chris Collins of New York, who is helping lead Trump's outreach on Capitol Hill, said the Trump campaign told lawmakers that the candidate would secure 85 of his state's 95 delegates on Tuesday. "That is conservative," Collins said of the Trump campaign's projections in his state. "We talked about 1,237, and I can tell you we got to 1,265 in a conservative way." Brookover added winning 1,265 delegates was possible but called it a "back-of-the-envelope" estimate. "We have to work hard, we have to talk to the voters, but I think the path, which has very few obstacles to us winning on the first ballot," Brookover said of the convention. The long and winding road to the Republican nomination
The meeting with roughly half dozen House Republicans who support Trump and one undecided member is the first of weekly sessions the campaign plans to hold with lawmakers, hoping to broaden its support on Capitol Hill as Trump tries to fend off Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

Ted Cruz never had a path to the nomination anyway. He can’t break 25% with the GOP voting base. He was never going to be a big contender with Trump as evidenced on Super Tuesday. The support was never there.
All this talk of a contested convention has been ginned up by the chattering class. Its based on wild speculation and Cruz has tried to capitalize on it. But time is running out and all he has to show for it is a crappy campaign slogan.
The truth of the matter is that Cruz’s naked ambition and thinking he’s so much smarter than everyone else is going to be his ruination. If Cruz had played his cards right he could be the VP or at least up for Scalia’s chair on the court. Now I imagine those ships have sailed. He’s going to land up back in his Senate seat with nothing to show for it.
The funny thing is that I wastcvhed an interview with Cruz early on where he freely admitted that his ambition and arrogance kept him from a high post in the Bush administration. Looks like he does not learn from experience.
I supported a Trump / Cruz ticket for quite a while, but Cruz just keeps getting creepier and creepier to me. Donald isn’t perfect, but I believe he will put America first instead of the rest of the world. A strong America is good for every voter.
Sounds like positive news to me!
If Trump falls a few delegates short, he will find a way to get to 1237. No one else has a chance.
Do you realize how ridiculous you sound ?
Levin , Beck, and Limbaugh are doing Cruz no favors ..I almost think they want Hellary to win so they can keep up their CONservative scam enterprises for another 8 years ...like El Rushbo has always said , follow the money ... heh heh
Trump has been for single payer healthcare since at least 1999. So, he is to the left of Obama and Hillary on healthcare. Sorry, that's socialism.
He has always been for high, re distributive taxes.
I don't care if he thinks he can repackage his leftist ideas with some repackaged, cynical slogans. Some people are too smart to fall for the ideas he allegedly discovered last June. Hope and Change by any other name is just as worthless.
Trump’s cutting it close, but the Colorado stunt pretty much HANDED it to him. Thanks GOPe for being SO STUPID.
I have never endorsed Cruz. But Trump came out and said he changed his mind of H-1Bs at a recent debate. Oh, but then he flipflopped on the issue several more times. Sorry, you can’t just believe what you want. Actions speak louder than words. Trump is a globalist who sells out the U.S.
You were totally destroyed on another thread for posting about that anecdote Ted related involving the Supreme Court.
Don’t even try to bring morals into the discussion.
As I told you over there, you bring a knife, we bring a Trump.
He is counting New Yorkers before they vote.
I hope we never have to get to know the Real Donald Trump.
Let’s get him out on the second ballot.
DeBlasio is a good target... a perfect symbol of the kind of New York values Ted was talking about.
Who elected him?
If only you could do the count.
But you can’t.
Trump will not get to 1237 by June 7th.
On June 8th, Cruz will still be outsmarting Trump.
Funny. Cruz is the only candidate who has broken 50% anywhere.
Donald Trump has not.
Trump has gotten where he is with about 35 to 37% of the vote because of all the other candidates.
If it had been Trump and Cruz all along, Trump would be in the dust.
I have no idea what you are talking about, post a link.
Post 3 was not about morals, it was about Ted’s lack of strategic thinking skills. That is killing him.
“A top Donald Trump adviser told House Republicans Thursday there’s no need to worry about a contested Republican National Convention, promising to clinch the nomination outright in June. “
I certainly hope so.
Let the GOPe wake up and get behind Trum.
How’s that going to work Half the people of New York can’t vote for him.. He is really going to have a twitter tantrum.
2 of his children can’t vote for him in the primary either..
