Now that the confrontation is over John Kerry is getting his “John Wayne” on. Some journalist needs to ask Sec. Hop-a-Long if his statement means that the NEXT time that Russian jets pull this stunt that the Navy will open-fire? Watch him back-peddal on that one!

Still, it would be interesting to know if the USS Donald Cook achieved a radar lock on those Sukhoi’s. It isn’t necessary to actually shoot them down, just show them that they are virtually ‘dead’. The pilots get the message.

Watching the video tape, the bridge of the “Donald Cook” didn’t look overly concerned.

The US Navy does exactly that. And the Royal Navy did it for a hundred years before that. “Freedom of Navigation” is the USN’s calling card. It shows the countries of the world that the USN is on-guard to protect sea-born trade, wherever. The US Navy is the cop on the beat in peacetime.

The Russian Navy doesn’t, and won’t ever do that. The Chinese Navy (PLAN) might, as they are already looking to control sea-lanes between Asia and the Persian Gulf.

The firing of all levels of rank above the ship’s cook would have been justified too!

This will go down as the greatest embarrassment in the history of the Navy. We have shown the enemy just what cowards we are and worse yet, we are so afraid of making an international spectacle that we don’t even utilize the military rule books at all! Our military leaders have been neutered by politicians.

The rules of war are written and to let enemy aircraft so close to ANY military assets is ordered to be met with deadly responses. It is in the “rule book.”

Pearl Harbor was a perfect example where lax military rules of engagement were the cause of the disaster. ASSUMPTIONS were made by the radar analysts and the result is history.

The ASSUMPTION by the captain of that ship that these Russian aircraft were simply taunting them could have been disastrous. We should have shot them down as soon as they came into the “forbidden” area around the ship to show that the U.S. Navy actually utilizes military professionalism and will not waver from military tactics and regulations.

We are a pathetic nation that has been consumed by political correctness by an affirmative action President that will do all to prevent anything that would cause him to have his Nobel Peace Prize taken away in the name of world peace.

If Trump or Cruz are not elected this time around, there is no more hope for our freedoms and dreams for this will be the final chapter of American History as a free nation.

We could see that they were not armed. It would have been like shooting down an unarmed man.

Shooting would NOT have been justified.

Wonder how many times we'e pulled this same kinda cr**.

And then there's Gary Powers.

You don’t send nukes on warships to sit off Kaliningrad.

Of course not. Tell Putin we have nukes off the coast of Königsberg.

It was intended to be sarcasm.

The height of sarcasm is the fact that Kerry is secretary of state, John Foster Dulles was a Secretary of State, Kerry is a .........(Censored)

Hmmmm ..?? The video I found re these aircraft clearly indicated that the aircraft were UN-ARMED. The aircraft were moving so fast, it was really difficult to see if they were carrying weapons.

No word on whether the ship’s air defenses were tracking the targets, or just on standby.

It might give a pilot pause to see those missile launchers swiveling to follow his flight path.

By Russia’s own admission, our ship was in “neutral waters” and perceived weakness is weakness.

Did not notice stories on state media stories about brave Russian pilots and pissed of American cowards. They are presenting it as nothing special. I heard US pilots were doing such things in the past.

There were such stories after the previous one with claims that Navy received a record number of resignations because all the sailors had a panic attack etc...

In this case the aircraft wouldn’t even need to leave Russian airspace to do it, and the missiles arrive on ship less than 15 seconds after weapons release. yeah. it’s sunk.
