New York Republicans Ignore Ted Cruz at GOP Gala
NBC News ^

NEW YORK — A stunningly distracted crowd of hundreds of Republicans almost entirely ignored Ted Cruz's speech at the New York City GOP gala on Thursday night, instead chattering at their dinner tables, standing and taking selfies. Several casually left the dinner altogether.

The crowd's stark disregard for Cruz's remarks followed months of controversy over Cruz's suggestion in January that Donald Trump has "New York values.

The term spoken derogatorily by Cruz led to skepticism of Cruz's ability to perform well in Tuesday's primary on the home turf of Trump, a native New Yorker.

"I mean, [Cruz] blew it when he did the New York Values thing — that was a bad point," said Ron Shindel, a Republican in attendance who also serves as the New York Police Department's commanding officer of the World Trade Center. "But this is Trumpville — this is Trump town. I imagined the overwhelming support of Trump."

As Chris Mathews said. “The only place you see New Yorkers parading around in cowboy boots is on Broadway.”

Yes, those dreadful types you describe are certainly not hard to spot, BUT I don’t think it’s a hopeless epidemic and I do think it’s far worse in other places in the country.

Meanwhile, the Democrat Party is quickly morphing into a sort of New Socialist Party, so I think that as that proceeds, many of the types of NY’ers you describe (limo libs and “Rudy” type Democrats) are going to start embracing fiscal conservatism. Watered-down perhaps, and ignoring social issues for sure, but definitely a plus for everyone who considers themselves conservative. This is where the country needs to get to right now imo. Baby steps.

Sen. Cruz simply needs crossover appeal and NY would be the perfect place to get it, but it doesn’t look like they’re biting. Ms. Rodham will therefore waste him in the general.

Left lawn guylant to enlist after HS in the late 70s. Still have family that think I am a mouthbreathing rube b/c I believe in the Constitution. My sister will not allow my nephew to visit WI b/c I have “firearms in the house and will not remove them”. The height of hypocrisy is a family member works for a DA and has a CCW permit but believes the masses should not own firearms. The overall smugness and “I know better than you” attitude of many noo yawkers rubs many the wrong way. I know first hand from some experiences in basic.

If an Ivy League lawyer/politician from Canada posing as a conservative Texan isn’t fake I don’t know what what would be considered fake.

[[More than 80% of Manhattan votes Democrat. DiBlasio is a communist, and he won the city going away. Perhaps it’s good to be ignored there.]]

Makes ya wonder why donald is doing so well there among liberals-

NYC is a yuuuge population plus many turd worlder’s dimbulbs who gravitate to the DemRats. I have family there and most of them tend toward the conservative side. I hope Trump in the general can overcome the DemRat stronghold that NYC is.

Rush just said that what happened is that there was deliberate sabotage of Cruz by whoever controls the sound engineering. He speculates that Cruz’s mike was turned off, and that there were other mikes placed out in the audience to pick up table noise.

He said Hannity mentioned a “technical glitch” at some point, and nothing appreciably changed. Then the meme came out that “Cruz was being ignored by New Yorkers.” He was being in awe of the slight of hand of the tricksters - and amazed that no one else had twigged onto this.

Its kinda rude how Ted was treated but his NY values comment (however he meant it) didnt go over so well plus Trump has hit him over the head with it mercilessly. Payback for WI and CO— oh well— politics is so lovely.

“the civil war is over, give it a rest.”

I know about Appomattox.

I also know about Chicago, Newark, Detroit, Washington D. C., and yes, Atlanta and Memphis.

There may be more trouble ahead.

So they treated Cruz with the same New York Values that Palin was treated with at the GOP fundraiser in Wisconsin. Guess I missed the thread bitching about that.

I’m not a hardcore Trump supporter although I will vote for him over Cruz. I just a detest phoney and that’s what Cruz is.

It was a set up from square one by the elitists in the NY Republican party.

The roster.....Trump..Kasich...and then Cruz?

No food for other speakers....but delivered to tables as Cruz starts?

Cutting off Cruz's mike and then opening mikes on the tables so you only hear people moving around and eating?

Then you make sure the media knows what's going to happen so the can push the meme that Cruz was reviled?

If that's what NY Republican elitist's values are......you can keep them.

So they protested his “new york values thing” by demonstrating their new york values.

Yup. And Trump winning New York will impress me as much as Mondale winning Minnesota.

NYC needs another Rudy. I loved the City when he was Mayor. Since he left, it seems that it’s turned back to what it was during the Dinkins era. Sad.

I don’t like seeing this kind of stuff, but Cruz really hurt himself by not developing relationships and building goodwill with others in his party.

“Well, I’ll defend staten island but you can have manhattan!!”

If you are defending and promoting conservative values, I'll fire on your tracers.

But I'm not supporting Trump. Because he is not a conservative.
