Besides the establishment and candidate aspects, another aspect was that the Congressional district covers parts of 3 counties. None were from DeKalb or Clayton. All 6 slated candidates were from the Fulton part of Atlanta and mostly from the same part of Atlanta ignoring 95% of the district geographically.
Nominations from the floor changed that.
Where did they dig up enough Republicans in that district to even have contested ballots? The Republicans couldn’t even find a sacrificial goat to run for Congress against Lewis in the 4 elections from 2002-2008. The Republicans haven’t won since the post 1970 redistricting when it was made a safe district for Andy Young.
