Peter King: I Hate Ted Cruz and I’ll Take Cyanide if He’s the Republican Nominee

Rep. Peter King (R., N.Y.) has never been shy about expressing his loathing for Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas), and he was at it again Tuesday on Morning Joe, saying he hated Cruz and would take cyanide if he become the Republican nominee.

Co-host Willie Geist read out a quote from King in which he said any New Yorkers who thought of voting for Cruz in Tuesday’s primary should “have their head examined.”

“What happens tonight on the Republican side? How big does Donald Trump win?” Geist asked.

“First of all, in case anybody is confused, I am not endorsing Ted Cruz,” King said. “I hate Ted Cruz, and I think I’ll take cyanide if he ever got the nomination.”

The Morning Joe panel roared with laughter.

King added he thought the polls would bear out and Trump would win handily in New York, although he added he voted for Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

The fact that Cruz is disliked by those in the Senate because he is a burr in their saddles politically-speaking, is good for his conservative bona fides. He's going against the grain of the establishment system of big government and operating outside the Constitution.

But what bothers me about Cruz is not that he is an insider pecking away at the system from outside the good ole boy circles, but it is that people who have worked with him or dealt with him in some way, tend to highly dislike Cruz as a person. They dislike his know-it-all personality and condescending demeanor. He's not known to be a person people want to associate with.

I was for Cruz before Trump got into the race but I would still vote for Cruz if it meant keeping Hillary (or Bernie) out of the White House. I don't think Cruz would be able to draw many voters outside his conservative, evangelical base he has now, in the general.

I still say Trump is the only one who can beat Hillary in the general election. He draws big crowds and from across political lines. Against that dull, screeching, wicked witch of the Left, I think The Donald wins going away in November.

With those stupid, knee-jerk, off the cuff responses, how is someone like this an elected official? Why would you publicly state you ‘Hate’ someone?
Do us a favor King and take it regardless. You have no business being in politics.

it shows his mentality, and others of his ilk show theirs...which shows us with whom he is ideologically akin

“He’s like the celebrities who threaten to leave the country if Trump is elected”

Yes, but it would be a win-win for better government. BTW, Peter King is the apt description for the bouncer in a gay bar!

Yeah I know but then Trump also has Giuliani. So it’s getting very very close. They both must be insiders and this is all a ruse for the GOPe to keep power. They are really backing their two favorite candidates but don’t want any of us to know.

Or maybe neither Cruz nor Trump are GOPe and the GOPe is worried like crazy and don’t know what the hell to do—> I think that’s the real answer.

Father in Heaven,...I humbly ask that Ted Cruz receive all the votes from here on out to the convention just to be able to watch all the weirdo's choke on their own vomit. All the people that believe Trump is a Republican will see how he was paid by Soros to split the party. How the RINO's will have to face Cruz like Wacko Bird McCain, and how the media will have to explain for the next decade how they were fooled by exit polls. Please expose to the voters that Trump is just another RINO that the voters are trying to get OUT of the party. Just to watch RINO Peter King fall into his own vomit would be worth the price of admission.

Father protect us from having to watch Trump as he finances Planned Parrenthood with our tax money and bring Hillary into his cabinet as a gesture of "reconciliation" with His children's party. Help us to avoid Trump covering for his friends, the Clinton's, and thwarting the investigations into her taking illegal funds from Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Qatar, and others, and the investigation in to the lack of action in Libya. Please continue the investigation into the IRS abuse even though it would prosecute people that Trump has supported in the past. Please continue the investigation into Bill Clinton on child rape in the Caribbean even though Trump gave money to Bill and is friends with Epstein, the convicted pervert. And lastly, protect the US from someone that brags that they have NYC values like partial birth abortion, gay marriage, higher taxes, stealing individual's land to give to private concerns, and votes for Cuomo and Bill DeBlazio.

In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen and Amen.

What kind of government “leader” publicly threatens suicide, regardless of the intent. What a horrible thing to say for kids or unstable people to hear.

I agree with that assessment. My guess is that the establishment is trying to suck up to Cruz. Not sure why the party apparatchiks aren’t trying to do the same thing to Trump.

I agree with pretty much all of your comments in post 41.
Trump leans left, but he still comes off as someone who loves America, and who will try to do the right thing.

I agree with Cruz on almost all (if not all) of his policy statements - but he pretty much lost me in the way in reacted to the Chicago Communist mob who shut down a Trump rally. I understand politics is dirty - but he (as did the other GOP candidates) picked the absolutely wrong time to play politics. He put his campaign ahead of the Country. The Move-On, BLM, Soros-Funded mob needed to be completely, and unequivocally, rebuked for their actions. Instead Cruz tried to play it both ways. 'Yes, what they did was bad -- but Trump was also at fault'. He gave the Media a platform to excuse the attack.

Yes; King is supporting Trump, but not enthusiastically. He prefers Kasich but know Kasich can’t win in the General.

King says he voted for Kasich.

Never happen

He’s like the celebrities who threaten to leave the country if Trump is elected

Exactly. Nice try, Peter. If you want to influence me to vote for Cruz, you'll have to swallow the cyanide *before* November.

These effing morons should learn to just shut their mouths sometimes.

They all seem to just love to see themselves on the news.

It's sickening.

Cyanide? I support Trump, but that may make me consider voting for Cruz. RINO King sucks, even for a NE liberal Republican.

If Ronald Reagan were still around, he'd likely b*tch-slap Peter King. I personally, would pay to see that.

If you have nothing good to say about your party's nominee, just shut up about it. Constructive criticism might be OK, but give it to them in private...otherwise, shut up.

"Oh, he's just voicing his opinion..." you might say. Nonsense. He's got an "R" next to his name, so he should be supportive of the party's nominee (or its potential nominees) publicly. If he can't do that, just shut up about it, and pull the "D" when you get to the polling booth.

With friends like Peter King in the party, who needs enemies?
