Hamilton to stay on $10; Tubman replacing Jackson

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Wednesday will announce plans to both keep Alexander Hamilton on the front of the $10 bill and to knock Andrew Jackson off the front of the $20 in favor of Harriet Tubman, sources tell POLITICO. Lew is expected to roll out a set of changes that also include putting leaders of the women’s suffrage movement on the back of the $10 bill, and incorporating civil rights era leaders and other important moments in American history into the $5 bill. Also, Jackson isn’t getting completely booted off the $20 bill. He’s likely to remain on the back. Story Continued Below

Lew's reversal comes after he announced last summer that he was considering replacing Hamilton on the $10 bill with a woman. The plan drew swift rebukes from fans of Hamilton, who helped create the Treasury Department and the modern American financial system. Critics immediately suggested Lew take Jackson off the $20 bill given the former president's role in moving Native Americans off their land.

I’m fine with it.

Out with the Democrat - Jackson the racist slave owner

In with the Republican - Tubman the freedom fighter

Let us never forget to remind - it was the Republicans who ended slavery, the abolitionists were Republicans, as were most of the civil rights leaders of the 1960s

$1 Washington - Federalist

$2 Jefferson - Democratic-Republican (in their day they were simply referred to as Republicans)

$5 Lincoln - Republican

$10 Hamilton - Federalist

$20 Jackson - Democrat

$20 Tubman - Republican

$50 Grant - Republican

$100 Franklin - no party

$1000 Wilson - Democrat (bills no longer printed)

So they have eliminated the last Democrat on any currently issued bill.

Soon we shall be Democrat free.

Clara Barton or Sacajawea would have been better choices.

Andrew Jackson was a PROUD liberal, as were the founders of the KKK and the American neo-Nazi movement. Liberals brought us slavery and it took a conservative Republican to stamp it out.

Actually it's a great choice. Harriet Tubman was a heroine of staggering courage and faith in God.

This.

They put Sacajawea on the dollar coin in 2000. No go. And that dollar coin was even smaller than the 1979 Susan B., both of which symbolized inflation.

The image of Susan B. Anthony was a real barker. Joan Rivers said she wouldn’t put it in the same pocket with George Washington because it would turn him gay.

They ought to reissue the old Liberty cartwheel only give it a face value close to silver. A $20 silver coin? It could work.

Never helped free slaves - only slaves she did help were her own relatives and some that she knew very well. Perhaps maybe thirty in total. The highest reward offered for her was $100. Maybe she should have been put on a hundred dollar bill instead.

The Feds were initially looking to change the $10 bill, but now that Hamilton has gone hip-hop they did not dare.

Instead of making our currency a popularity, political, or race contest; why not just put national landmarks and war memorials on the bills.
At least it could try to remind the gimmeedats why they still have the right to carry currency.
