Thus, strangely enough, with the likes of Manafort, the Republican voters have found themselves back to square one. Manafort was deeply involved in McCain’s debacle, and his lobbying colleagues coached Romney’s losing bid in 2012. Can anyone say Bob Dole? Yes, Manafort ran his losing campaign in 1996 and originally stuck up for Ford against Reagan in 1976. The idea that this campaign is an insurgency is really not true. What is actually happening is a repeat performance of 2008 and 2012 in spite of Trump’s political incorrectness and stand on immigration - with deep Republican insiders back in the saddle.
