#PoachersBeware #NoPoachin’Ted
The best thing about the California primary election is the delegate allocation process. Delegate poachers will have a much harder time in Cali since the candidate selects their own ‘loyal’ delegates after the election. Ain’t that grand!
“The selection of Presidential Nominating Convention Delegates to the Republican National Convention ... shall be chosen by the Presidential candidate who obtained the plurality of Republican votes within each Congressional district, and, for ... at large ... by the Presidential candidate who obtained the plurality of Republican votes statewide. [Standing Rules and Bylaws of the California Republican Party As Amended 20 September 2015 Article VI Section 6.01 (A)]”
Cali rules will prevent Fidelito & friends from pre-poaching delegates to his side. Since the delegates are not publicly allocated and chosen until after June 7th, they will not be available to Cruz or anyone else. Between June 7th - July 18 Convo, I would suggest that Trump quarantine the delegates at Catalina Island or Mar-a-Lago -Someplace real nice. (joke)

That’s really cool! I didn’t realize this. So Ted’s poaching ways will be checked!
There is one problem with this - Trump didn’t start getting his delegate slates together until last week, and he only has two more weeks to finish. He has to find 6 delegates in each congressional district (three delegates, three alternates). They must be registered Republicans, and they must be able to pay a $900 participation fee out of their own pockets (the campaign cannot pay the fee.) In addition, they have to be able to afford the cost of the trip to Cleveland (travel, food, lodging) as well as a mandatory delegate meeting in LA a month before the convention.
Now, in some places this will not be a problem. But in a lot of congressional districts, there are very few Republicans to begin with. And a lot of those districts are low-income (south Central LA, the central valley, etc). So finding 6 Republicans who support Trump and can afford the cost of being a delegate might be tough to do in 2 weeks. It took the Cruz campaign almost 6 months to find all the delegates - and they had a much larger operation in CA than Trump currently has.
I hadn’t heard that. That is good news. I also wasn’t sure the delegate allocation was a simple plurality winner take all rather than needing over 50% in each district to get them all. Good news all around. That makes it much more likely Trump can get over 150 delegates here in CA.
