HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) — Donald Trump's chief lieutenants told skeptical Republican leaders Thursday that the GOP front-runner has been "projecting an image" so far in the 2016 primary season and "the part that he's been playing is now evolving" in a way that will improve his standing among general election voters. The message, delivered behind closed doors in a private briefing, is part of the campaign's intensifying effort to convince party leaders Trump will moderate his tone in the coming months to help deliver big electoral gains this fall, despite his contentious ways.

He means he’s a con man and has been running a con.

He may continue to play the con, and con both sides to varying degrees. If he's the nominee, we have to play it out. If he is president, we have to constantly apply pressure to him, ESPECIALLY ON COURT PICKS. Keep Melania busy (good advice for ALL of the candidates' wives). Regardless of what he is, this is an opportunity to make a more nationalistic, less-nation-building,less cronyist version of the Republican Party. I don't think the social conservatism at the party level or the gun owners' rights advocacy are particularly in danger, though some snakes may make themselves visible.

If Trump lives up to 80% of some freeper's expectations, and also beats Hillary, we will be blessed (depending on which 20% he disappoints us on). If not, we must make sure we are never in a position to feel obliged to take a chance on a wild card to blow things up, because of the perception that that is the best of the remaining political options available.

The list of items he has gone back on now must be getting fairly long now with the addition of three new ones today. Anybody got a list?

It wasn’t the conservatives. It was the liberal wing, the same ones that Trump is courting. He only posed as a conservative - he’s never been a conservative anything, either Dem or Republican.

His first job was to get rid of the 17 other jokers. He’s now done that in a brilliant and innovative way, so it’s time to move to a more policy-oriented presentation. He said several weeks ago that he would be delivering major policy speeches and position papers in the coming weeks.

“Evolving”

Haven’t heard Ted talk about abolishing the IRS lately have you? Or the other 4 Departments and 25 agencies he said he would abolish? Maybe they figured they wore that one out.

Ted’s got a lot of mileage out of his red meat parties, but he’s already starting to offer a new menu. Get ready for some “filet mignon”

I agree with you.

I have thought the same thing for a number of years.

The big question is what kind of President Trump is going be and what he is going to do once elected

Nobody has any idea on this, probably including Trump

One thing for certain is that Trump has been playing his supporters like a violin

At best Trump is a pragmatic, benevolent opportunist who is media savvy and a masterful manipulator of the media and public opinion which is not a bad skill set for a politician. It is however , a dangerous skill when misused

A lot of Trump's most ardent supporters are probably going to be very disappointed in the man they have invested so much in when he “ evolves”

Trump watching over the years suggests that what motivates Trump and make up his defining traits is to be, say and do whatever he needs to in order to get what he wants at any particular point in time - especially if it includes beating an opponent and “winning” what ever it is that Trump wants to win.

When Trump give legalization to “the good ones” without sending anyone back, without building a wall, and without mexico paying for anything. And when trump falls in line with the dems on social issues like Transgender, LBGT rights, abortion rights, and raises taxes on everyone earning over 100k per year..... will you deem that he has done 80% of what he promised? Oh yeah.... he’ll probably tax Ford Motor Company by executive order.... for building cars in Mexico.... So that will make him okay I guess.

[And to think that this whole thing began because conservatives of the GOPe kicking us in the teeth.]

So you support a liberal hack fraud, who just happens to have donated tons of money to Hillary Clinton, and kick the only guy in the race who has stood with conservatives and actually took on the GOP-e in the teeth. Genius.

Sigh.

You do understand that trump is the only person who can keep Hillary out of the White House , right?

And please spare us all the msm polls showing Cruz and kasich beating her.

Yep... you’re with #neverhannity. That’s what #neverhannity tells us to. It has to be Trumpy or we’ll lose to Hillary. Trumpy and anyone... doesn’t matter... just has to be King Trumpy. Hillary will beat him like a bad indian drum.

When those of negotiable convictions stoop to support what’s popular, rather than what’s right, this is what you get.

The blatherings of you Cruzers is already fading into the noise as everyone starts to realize that Trump will be the nominee. So go ahead, en”joy” yourself for the few weeks you have left, before Teddy is nothing but a memory. Amanda Carpenter will probably be writing her ‘tell all’ book within a year that may provide some comfort.

In “The Art of the Deal” he wrote about playing to people’s fantasies. Thinking BIG!

*************

excerpt regarding “The Art of the Deal”:

The only way you’re going to make the deal you want, he says, is if you’re coming from a position of strength and can convince the other side that you have something they need.

Trump says he’s not afraid to blur reality to utilize leverage. “When the board of Holiday Inn was considering whether to enter into a partnership with me in Atlantic City, they were attracted to my site because they believed my construction was farther along than that of any other potential partner.”

“In reality,” he writes, “I wasn’t that far along, but I did everything I could, short of going to work at the site myself, to assure them that my casino was practically finished. My leverage came from confirming an impression they were already predisposed to believe.”

I guess I shouldn’t have used “you” as I didn’t mean it to be directed at “you” specifically but the idea that any frustrated conservative would support a liberal like Trump over the proven anti-establishment conservative we have in Cruz and how skittle sense that makes.
