Like Mozart hearing music in his head all the time from the Amadeus movie. Prince was also a recognized musical savant at an early age.

Yep, he was married to his music, there was no room for a real human relationship. Sad, really.

Pretty funny tune. The dude was just a genius songwriter. Read an article today on the big hits he wrote for other artists. Knew most of them but had no idea he wrote Stevie Nicks’s “Stand Back.” Learn something new every day.

Technically, the raspy 1983 Wild Heart dance track “Stand Back,” was written by Nicks herself – but Nicks has said it “belongs” to Prince. She likes to tell its origin story: It was the day of her wedding, she and her new husband Kim Anderson were driving North to Santa Barbara for their honeymoon when she heard “Little Red Corvette” for the first time. She wrote “Stand Back” start to finish that day, humming along to the Prince single. When she later went to record the song, she called to tell him the story. Twenty minutes later the Purple One showed up at her studio. He “walked over to the synthesizers that were set up, was absolutely brilliant for about 25 minutes and then left,” she later told Timothy White. “He spoiled me for every band I’ve ever had because nobody can exactly recreate – not even with two piano players – what Prince did all by his little self.”

My favorite was The Bangles’ “Manic Monday”.

Stand Back was more Prince than Stevie Nicks, especially with the synths and lack of guitars.

That’s a great story, thanks! Reminds me of a story Linda Ronstadt tells about Brian Wilson. She says she sent him a song (”Adios”, which is awesome) and asked if he could write the harmonies for it. He showed up at her house the next morning with the whole thing completely written, and he ended up doing all the multilayered harmonies himself. Geniuses. Weird, but crazy good.

The dude was tiny.

“Raging butch” would not have looked good on him.

:)

I heard that Prince was treated for (or at least had) a drug overdose a few days prior.

So I wouldn't be surprised if this was drug-related, unfortunately...

It seems sad that as you say he was “married to his music.” But for artists, musicians...even great engineers, business people or scientists...it’s really not.

They thrive on success and the creative process; it is what truly makes them happy. The people that generally suffer are those who love them if they expect a life of “normalcy.”

I heard an interview with his first manager today. The host asked him what Prince did in his down time. He said, “Really, nothing. He didn’t have any down time. We begged him to slow down a little, but he was focused on his music 100%.” He did allow Prince would throw around a basketball every now and again, but he mainly stuck to music.

Heard in a couple of interviews in recent years from an a actor and a comedian ( forgot which ones ) that playing golf with him and hanging out, Prince was just a normal guy.

Yeah, no gay there. They were beauties.

Trump knows so many black stars that he should be able to get to vouch for him.

They do but then back down like f....ts after liberals get to them.

even rappers. I thought they were so tough
