Taking the miscreant out of his milieu does wonders for attitude adjustment. The simplest form of exile is to lock up the bad boys, but this only throws the worse elements of anti-social behavior into close proximity, and the synergistic process only results in better trained criminals, a sort of post-graduate course in criminal behavior.
Taking the habitual offender away from contact with other habitual offenders, by removal to a point perhaps several hundred miles away, where it would be difficult at best to find the old interrelationships, also wrenches the mind away from scheming for the next “blow for freedom” (whatever that means to the young “revolutionary”) to suddenly having a whole new set of concerns, requiring the adoption of a new skill set, also resets the thinking processes.
That is why, years ago, fathers would have their sons signed up for a tour in the military service, where all this youthful energy and enthusiasm could be channeled into the purpose taking on the defense of the Homeland, an option which today is all too lacking, unless the youth wants to sign up to fight on the side of ISIS.
That may not be the best long-range strategy.
The whole idea behind things like the Peace Corps was to steer otherwise restless youth into some endeavor that would shape and train their critical thinking capabilities into some semblance of civilized behavior. Seems to have worked, insofar as the politics were kept out of the assignments.
But somewhere along the way, this all veered into “nation-building” and the results were less than stellar.
They are two completely separate issues.
Prison never was made to address local political socioeconomic policies and problems.
In short, liberal policies of all kinds create conditions that result in far more crimimals existing. They know it and still deny it.
Libs deny personal responsibility. Libs create white flight, poverty, institutionalize racism, encourage sloth, crime, envy, jealousy, violence, tyranny of the minority, zero tolerance non-think, blaming the victims, protected classes, and in general greatly increase iniquity.

Rebuilding the married black family would do a lot, too, but that takes time while the rapes, murders and thefts take place now.
So lock up the criminals now to protect the innocent, and simultaneously work on undoing the damage federal welfare programs did to lower class families to reduce the problem long term.

I beg to differ. Thugs need to be locked up, looking at striped sunlight. Recently, an elderly woman died in a house fire in the DFW area. The cause? She had burglar bars on her house and could not find the key. She died because she had to lock herself in her house to stay safe. When did it become the norm for law-abiding citizens to lock themselves in while the criminals roam the streets free?
Best way to keep them from returning to jail is to keep them there
