Cruz’s contested convention delegate strategy could backfire

It might work, but as Fox News notes this weekend, it’s hardly a risk free strategy.

Even if Cruz is able to force a contested convention by keeping Trump from reaching the magic 1,237 number, he is counting on delegates both having the strength to vote to reject Trump in the face of significant pressure from the campaign and Trump supporters, and then moving to Cruz after they are unbound.

While the strategy seems to have its merits, the question of whether delegates will back him could be complicated by recent threats made to both GOP party officials and delegates themselves, allegedly by Trump supporters. -----------------------------

Yet it wasn’t so long ago that anyone with a career in the dreaded GOP establishment wouldn’t spit on Cruz’s head if his hair were on fire. (I mean, it’s not as if any high ranking party members were joking about murdering him on the Senate floor or taking cyanide rather than voting for him, right?)

“Did Cruz ever show up at the flood sites in TX?”

I think the tx primary was over. If not he would have been there to show how much he cares.

Ted, has overlooked the one, most important, thing. He needs to be likeable and open enough for people to vote for him. Master manipulator behind the scenes would look good on him if he had been successful in that roll in the senate. In stead he has proven to be a grand stander/panderer playing the inside game. That makes him Hillary without the lipstick.

As anyone who has watched Game of Thrones will tell you, caution is required if you make a deal with a traitor. If you rely on a victory which requires delegates ostensibly “bound” to Trump but who are willing to sell him out on the second ballot, the loyalty of some of them may well be up for grabs.

But Cruz is so charismatic! Ask his Senate colleagues!

If they have done their duty on the first ballot and are no longer legally bound on subsequent ballots then Trump and Cruz delegates are not selling out if they support another candidate. If the candidates keep all their own delegates then nobody will be nominated, the rules will be suspended and another candidate waltzes in. Maybe that is a good thing.

I was always hoping Cruz would get into the race, and I happily donated on his website the day he announced. Who do I ask to get my sixty bucks back?

To win The Contesting, he’d have to persuade over 25% off Trump’s delegates to change their vote.
I don’t see how he’s going to persuade that many people who made the trip with full intention of voting Trump into nomination.

I also think that Cruz has very little chance to get away with it, but we have to remember in places like Arizona, where Trump received over twice as many votes as Cruz, all of the delegates are purported to be Cruz operatives. A delegate is suppose to represent the interests of the voters, but the Cruz campaign has been working hard to subvert this process. They say it is all good because they are “following the rules”.

I voted for those two losers as well. I mean is a Bushee, McLame, or a Romtard the best that the GOPe can do?

No, it will not.

If Cruz secures a victory, it will be totally legitimate.

Trump got unfair advantages early; he’s had unfair advantages throughout the campaign with free ads from the media.

Cruz is working on securing second ballot vote both from Rubio and Trump supporters. He’s not buying them... he’s not Trump, but he is convincing them.

Whatever people think about Cruz’s process to the nomination, he will be a far more credible and successful candidate against Hillary than Trump would be.

>If Cruz secures a victory, it will be totally legitimate.

Trump supporters and the general public won’t view it that way. Lawyering doesn’t work with the general public. As a wise person once said perception is everything. You’ll be looking at losing the house, the senate, and the presidency in one go.

>Whatever people think about Cruz’s process to the nomination, he will be a far more credible and successful candidate against Hillary than Trump would be.

Who exactly is Cruz going to win with? He can’t even win with Republican voters and yet you expect him to win with the General public? That’s just magical thinking.

“following the rules”...Romney and Jeb Bush are manipulating Cruz on this tact. Cruz isn’t eligible and he knows it; this is all done for that murdering drug trafficker, Jeb.
