The Republican Convention Will Not Be Contested

Apologies to those who still don't accept the inevitability of a Donald Trump candidacy in the Republican Party -- I feel your pain, as a famous prevaricator/predator once said -- but, disappointing as it may be to Fox and CNN executives, not to mention the millions or hundreds of thousands of voters loyal to Messrs. Cruz and Kasich, it's all over but the shouting and the backbiting. Cleveland in July may not be Christmas in July, but it's not going to be the second coming of the 1992 L.A. riots or the 1968 Chicago convention either.

It's going to be business -- relatively -- as usual with a Republican nominee comfortably in place before the festivities begin. And we all know who that is, like it or not. The fat lady has sung -- with a Queens accent.

I know that many see this as a disaster. The Republican Party will disintegrate. The Congress will turn blue never to return, etc. etc.

I don't. I'm sure that since I am a Trump supporter -- even though an intermittent and ambivalent one -- people will disqualify my opinion, and perhaps they should, but I don't have that worry. I think, as the old saying goes, things happen for a reason. I agree with Tucker Carlson, who said on The Kelly File Monday night that Trump was the only candidate with a chance of defeating Hillary Clinton in the general election. It is only Trump, of all the Republicans, if indeed he is a Republican, who is enough of a wild card to overcome the new American demographics that so favor Democratic candidates in presidential elections. They were bad enough when Obama ran against Romney. They are worse now.

I agree with Roger, he is the only one that can beat Hillary.

Today will be a big blow to Cruz and Kasich. Indiana will finish them off.

I was thinking that in the end the Pubes would deal with the Donald. Maybe 20 years ago they would have fought. But the GOPe is too cowardly and degraded to DO anything. Just talk talk wonk wonk threats and more wonk talk. And in the end they DO nothing. Like they have for the last 20 years.

I agree. Everybody can huff and puff all they want but Trump will go into the convention with enough delegates and they'll nominate him.

Cruz and Kasich need to stop what they're doing and turn ALL their fire on Hillary. We need Trump, Cruz and Kasich attacking her NOW. We need a convention that enthusiastically nominates our candidate and then turn all attention on the Hildebeast!

I am not a Trump supporter but stealing the nomination from him would do more to destroy the GOP than allowing him to win it.

I am not a Trump fan but he is the only hope both the GOP and America have of pulling out of our national tailspin. Decades of malicious government policies and cowardice eventually has it's effect - not to mention the accompanying moral collapse of American morals, education, and culture.

The Democrats have succeeded wildly in transforming America from a democratic republic governed by a Constitution to a bureaucratic tyranny governed by emotion and greed.

There are a lot of people to thank for that and they (at least those still alive) should be warmly acknowledged and thanked when the inevitable implosion comes.

It bears repeating:

Never in the history of the GOP, going back to the early 1850s, has a candidate arrived at the convention with over 80% of the needed majority of delegates and been denied the nomination. Never. That translates this year into 990 for over 80%, a number Trump will reach very soon.

In reality, Trump will arrive with at least 90+ percent of the 1237 (1113) worst case scenario. It would be unprecedented to deny him the nomination.

“Cruz and Kasich need to stop what they’re doing and turn ALL their fire on Hillary.”

I will sit back and watch events at the point when The Donald becomes inevitable. I will vote for him—Hillary will certainly be an awful president. The Donald is somewhat less likely to be an awful president. And he will probably be elected.

At that point, small government conservatism is probably dead as is the Tea Party movement or any other movement focused on reducing the size or power of government. The one-two-three punch of Bush/Obama/Trump will, imho, put the concept of limited government in hospice until there is a revolution or the country splinters.

I regard limited government as the only relevant issue in America. So I look at the Frankenstein monster America has become and genuinely pray that Trump is not what he appears to be.

IT’S THE IMMIGRATION, STUPID!

Sorry. My wife will tell you that I can’t resist an opening like that ;-)

Seriously though, the single most pressing issue we face at this time, is the ongoing invasion of our country by foreigners, both legal and illegal.

It’s why Trump is walking away with this election. He’s the only candidate who’s credible on the issue.

Actually, we don’t disagree much. Immigration is the short term problem. Limited government is the long term problem. Sacrifice one for the other and we still don’t have a country.
