I still don’t understand why they decided to keep Calhoun’s name? Do you?

Of course they’ll keep his name. He probably has some descendants who threatened to sue. And surely potential donors or now adding the requirement that the name stay on the building or the money is returned.

Because they are currently in negotiations with mega-rich people who might be willing to remember Yale in their wills to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, on the condition that Yale name a building for them, and that this naming be made in perpetuity.

If the see that "in perpetuity" actually means "until some campus activists we admit at some future date decide that the way you made your money was immoral under some ludicrous left-wing theory of deconstruction of some future whack-job form of liberalism," it's ta-ta moo-lah.

Left-wing student crazies can get away with almost anything, but when it starts costing the University money... well, that's a whole different kettle of fish.
