You’re not ruling out the stuff coming from the Middle East, right? You’re saying that it’s the Mexican and Columbian connections that are dominant, right? If so, what estimate would you give as to how much of the total is traffic coming from the Middle East, especially from regions where there is Islamic jihad and fatwa against the “Great Satan” (us)?

From the people I talk with in HSI and DEA, upwards of 90% of the U.S. supply comes from Mexico and Columbia. I don't know if that is because there is a better market for Asian heroin in Asia and Europe, or it is because the Mexicans play so rough.

Drug trends come and go, but the important untold story is that the Mexicans have all but taken over the supply chain for drugs in this country in the last eight years. Those used to be good paying American criminal jobs. Now the Mexicans take the supply as far as they can get away with, usually only one or two levels above the street dealer.
