Throughout the Republican Party, from New Hampshire to Florida to California, many leaders, operatives, donors and activists arrived this week at the conclusion they had been hoping to thwart or at least delay: Donald Trump will be their presidential nominee.
An aura of inevitability is now forming around the controversial mogul. Trump smothered his opponents in six straight primaries in the Northeast and vacuumed up more delegates than even the most generous predictions foresaw. He is gaining high-profile endorsements by the day a legendary Indiana basketball coach Wednesday, two House committee chairmen Thursday. And his rivals, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, are making the kind of rushed tactical moves that signal desperation.
The party is at a turning point. Republican stalwarts opposed to Trump remain fearful of the damage the unconventional and unruly billionaire might inflict on the partys down-ballot candidates in November. But many also now see him as the all-but-certain nominee and are exhausted by the prospect of a contested July convention, according to interviews this week with more than a dozen party figures from coast to coast.
People are realizing that hes the likely nominee, said Tim Pawlenty, a former Minnesota governor and onetime endorser of Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida. The hysteria has died down, and the range of emotion is from resignation to enthusiasm.
In Colorado where Cruz outfoxed Trump in a series of clamorous meetings earlier this month to win all of the states 34 available delegates former state party chairman Dick Wadhams said, Fatigue is probably the perfect description of what people are feeling.

The suck-up begins.
Trump shouldn’t trust any of these people at all.
I have to ask....did they REALLY think Ted Cruz was gonna win ANY of those five states?
Trust is not necessary.
Trump will ask how can they best serve my quest to make America Great Again?
I’ve noticed a sudden change of heart in several...like Fred Barnes (shock!! and shouldn’t be trusted), but someone needs to get the message to Yeb. The Bushies aren’t going out quietly. Whaaaa.
Trump = “controversial,” while Hillary, who’s facing indictment for federal felony national security crimes = not controversial.
It’s just simple math. Love him or hate him, Trump’s numbers are like those of the New England Patriots, who always seem to be 4 games ahead, with only 5 left to play.
I doubt the Establishment and the media and the big $$$ boys are just going to give up and throw in the towel.
Watch for some kind of trojan horse or head fake with them.
The hate for America hasn’t abated, and the disdain for our culture won’t just go away. If anything, it has intensified.
The fight is going to be a long and messy one. I’m sure The Donald has read ‘The Art of War’ by Sun Tzu, but so should every other patriot.
Can a leopard change its spots? Think about it.
[The Bushies arent going out quietly. Whaaaa.]
I have an uuneasy suspicion that the Bush camp is plotting a 3rd party spoiler....
It’s remarkable how Trump has completely out-thought the GOP establishment. Granted, the bar is low, but still. He is now in the process of out-thinking Hillary Clinton, another low bar. Love him or hate him he’s going all the way.

Trying to blame Trump for their rinoism.
Many of the GoPe deserve to lose their seats, it’s their OWN damn fault.
My 2-cents worth (and worth every penny)... Trump should use video of the vile rioters protesting at his rallies in campaign ads vs Hillary. Cant hurt IMHO.
Man the lifeboats!
It was pretty obvious when Boehner attempted the kill shot on Cruz yesterday. Keep looking for the level of gopE attacks on Cruz to continue. Cruz served a purpose for the gopE, but now that he’s failed, they’ll discard him and move on.
I have no doubt that they’re plotting, especially after that telling pic of Poppy Bush at the debate and everything their adopted son, Mittens, is doing along with their other adopted son, Raphael. But, I believe Trump and Manafort are a few steps ahead of their sinister plans. Pray so, anyway.

Many Freepers predicted the GOPe would do exactly that.
I think other members of the GOPe will grab the Bushes by the shorthairs and rein them in. Trying to kneecap Trump at this stage would be hitting the self-destruct button on the party. They would all lose the cushy jobs, perks and influence they now enjoy. Forever.
Riding out a Trump Presidency is now their path of least resistance.
Because America first is soooo controversial. Go suck an egg Philip. Thank God there are alt media outlets these days.
‘Ya reckon?
