Stupidity has nothing to do with it. These people are desperately poor. The are poor because their Leftist brain dead leaders are unable to make a successful society.
Obama has plans for you and they include sifting through rubbish for food and recyclables in order to eat.

Desperation is depressing on many levels...
The folks killed/missing are just your average dirt poor folks who have nothing thanks to governmental policy.
I’ve seen it Panama, it’s much the same throughout Latin America.
Some compassion is appropriate in this case.
