This mild, short winter means most of Minnesota's tick population survived. Even though it's only early March, the disease-carry blacklegged ticks, also known as deer ticks, are already out and active. "We know they can be active when the temperatures are in the mid -to upper-30s, so that could be today," University of Minnesota Entomologist Jeff Hahn said. "They are out there, and we have already seen them looking for hosts," he said. Blacklegged ticks are becoming more of a problem here in the Twin Cities metro. As a result, the number of reported cases of Lyme disease are on the rise. According to The Minnesota Department of Health, 252 cases were reported in 1996; that number jumped to 1,431 reported cases in 2013.

Had the lyme year before last. Caught it as soon as I saw the rash and no proble. Problem is, if you get one stuck in your hair, you dont see the reash. This is a bad infection to get.
Many years ago, before the Mexican invaders took over the jobs, I used to plant trees in Minnesota. They were all row cropped, spaced on about a 7’x8’ grid over acres. Some were for timber, but most were for the paper mills. In the course of a day, I’d plant between 3000-4000 seedlings depending on the terrain and soil type. In the course of a day I’d pick up anywhere between 50 and 125 ticks crawling up and burrowing into me. I thought it was bad, at least until the black flies came out. Now THAT was bad! Black flies crawling into my nose and ears and eyes, with a constant swarm around my head. The ticks seemed like rather minor annoyance then.

BTW genius, half the crew tested positive for it.
Is there a definitive test for Lyme, or is it just ‘a strong possibility’ result?
Mrs. BE was suspected of having it a couple years back, but we were given to understand that all they had to go by were symptoms.
So how are you being treated?

The woods out back are loaded with those nasty suckers...
It cost me just over 800 bucks.
Two of the crew got it last year and the test now cost them over 500 bucks a pop.
I have to believe that one of my bothers died from the complications from it. He was a Veteran and had Rheumatoid arthritis and heart disease. To my knowledge, he was never tested. Like myself he worked outdoors.

If you even suspect, go and get tested. It is still in her blood if she thinks she might have had it.
It is a bacteria and easily treated.
My machinery salesmans wife got it and it was to late by the time they found it. The tick was most likely in her hair. She now has arthritis as a result of it-he told me.
Anywhere there is deer ticks-mostly the upper midwest to the New England is the areas to watch out for it.
The rash they have on there? Is exactly what I had.

He sez test pretty much sucks so doesn’t bother with it
Crushed a biting black fly into my shoulder. Got the symptoms at that site. Tested positive for Lyme. Doctor said, black flies aren’t a vector. I respectfully disagree.
