In wake of toddler's slaying, 2 VMC doctors fired

Santa Clara County has fired the doctor in charge of its Center for Child Protection and another pediatrician for allegedly failing to report egregious abuse of a toddler whose mother's boyfriend has since been charged with his murder, the Mercury News has learned.

Just six months before the 2-year-old boy was found dead in mid-January, both of his arms had been broken, multiple sources familiar with the investigation said. Yet even though medical personnel suspected the injuries were not accidental, as the mother said, the incident was never reported by the doctors to Child Protective Services, as required by law.

Prosecutors are weighing whether to seek a death sentence for the mother's boyfriend, Manuel Anthony Lopez, 22, on charges including rape of the boy. The District Attorney's Office is reviewing the medical records to decide whether further charges against Lopez are warranted.

What other charges could there be? Just should the MF'er in the head and get over with it.

Just think; if a CPS staffer had sniffed any hint of a daycare worker directing a child to go to the proper bathroom for his/her sex, they’d be facing indictment and a DOJ civil rights lawsuit that would essentially be a sinecure for a big money fine and years of upsetting litigation.

This was horrible how that boy died. He even at one point wrote a suicide note.

And then rape him with a telephone pole (yes size matters in this case).

The mother should be looked at for charges as well, though she may have just been deathly afraid of him. Still she should have been more concerned about her son, as most good mothers would be.

The docs were afraid of Manny Lopez.

If they had said anything, two things would have happened:

- Lopez would threaten them (and nothing would happen to him)

- CPS would accuse the doctors of racial profiling for reporting Lopez

No way do they win. It’s surprizing they even arrested him, most Santa Clara county deputies would run the other direction if a Mexican was the perp.

Why didn't his mother report it?

Just shooting him would be too kind for this POS. A long drawn out painful death would be more appropriate for this scum.

She didn’t want to lose her boyfriend? She lied about what happened. The boyfriend was also charged with raping the boy.

She’s as much to blame as the boyfriend.

I was thinking something along the lines of drawing and quartering, or perhaps necklacing, but that will do.

Another tragic Santa Clara county case. They can blame the docs but here is what would have happened. The case would have been referred to CPS. Sometime a case worker might be assigned. Later still a visit may have been made. This child would not have been removed from the home because after all family reunification is paramount.

Our personal experience with abused kids would prevent me from ever reporting to them.
But WHAT is the alternative?
My husband was accused of being at fault for his ex battering, burning and making his kids sleep in rubber sheet pools of urine.
A neighbor girl told another neighbor that her step dad did nasty things to her and the neighbor called CPS who talked to the perp and sent her back home. Shortly after, she jumped her pony out in front of a truck. Killed the pony but she survived.
Stories like this abound because CPS says it’s their job to protect the HOME!
