I haven’t even started to read the article, but I adore the title.

You think that Trump will control the party machinery if he loses? I don’t see it.

Not really. Will, the son of a philosophy professor, is intelligent, well-educated, and deeply attached to conservative principles. He also intuitively yearns for good men and women to be their advocates in politics. That kind of thinking has an honorable pedigree that can be traced from the ancient world through to today and broadly reflects the division of life and politics into aristocratic and popular sentiments and factions.

Many conservatives recoil from Trump due to his often vulgar manner and crude remarks. To win the general election, Trump will have to put these people at ease and draw them back into the Republican coalition even as he keeps the appeal generated by his maverick populism. Trump will have a chance to do that when he speaks to the Republican convention. If he fails in that task, Trump is likely to lose the general election, with a decisive slice of the electorate rejecting his as dangerously ill-tempered and erratic.

“What happens if Trump wins, gets sworn in and then does a 180 from everything he says,”

That isn’t going to happen. It is one of the lies told about Trump by people that cherry pick quotes and ignore what Trump actually says.

“Oh no!” they exclaim, “When Trump was 9 years old he admired FDR. He must be a closet liberal”

Will is a conservative, but a bookish, intellectual sort. He is not someone though to rely on for political strategy or even to organize a precinct walk.

George Will stated on Fox News on Friday that Trump will never get as many young people to vote for his as Romney did. If that isn’t the most insane statement I don’t know what is. Will has a hidden agenda and sees his gravy train drying up. The entire National Review folks have lost their minds!

Early on in the 1980 campaign, Will regarded Reagan as too old, as did many conservatives. But Reagan’s campaign and his besting of George Bush in New Hampshire showed that Reagan’s energy and talents were intact despite his years. In addition, Reagan courted and drew in the support of Eastern Establishment types and of conservative and neocon intellectuals.

Why would you question this long time npr reporter as to his logic in this matter? Like most in the business he knows that facts are at best insignificant.

in other words Trump proves he really is just another mainstream GOPe Republican?... I mean isn’t that what.the whole party been doing to us for years going back to George Bush Senior “Read my lips no new taxes”?

The reality is if Trump does that 180, George Will, National Review and all the Trump hater will also do a 180 and will love Trump

George Will is 75 years old. We should be grateful he finds his way to work every morning.

The Globalists in Washington, Wall Street, Silicon Valley, Davos, WTO, around the world...are going to have to get used to America rising back to its rightful position---the position its people have worked for and died for and sacrificed for. One where America puts AMERICA FIRST. They can go on with their Internationalist World Order and play footsie with each other, but they'll have to do it without America. They will have to find other countries to loot and pillage. Trump will set back Globalism a century. And Trump will reinvigorate nationalists in Europe to stand up to the oligarchs who run their nations. It's morning in America, baby.

I cannot believe all the shit we've had to put up with from Cruzers here on FR, even as their man came unglued they still made their pathetic insults and they still revealed over and over that they knew nothing about the issues, the candidates, history. WE are gonna have to save their asses. The IRONY---they did everything they could to bring Trump down, now Trump's policies will save them and their kids and grandkids. The Vichy Americans---the Cruzers. Truly. Sided with the enemies of sovereignty, and fortunately had someone to bail them out before they made everyone in America live like third-worlders.

These guys like Will have totally removed any pretense of masking their true gutless horrid selves. Most of us here suspected people like Will and Bill Kristol and others were never really giving 100% to the cause and here you see that these fools are more concerned about decorum while they are suggesting we elect Hillary and put sex harassing raping Bill Clinton back in there with her. I’m so thankful for Trump. I’m glad we can now see exactly what side these types are really on.
