John Kasich is staying in the Republican presidential race, his campaign said Tuesday.

After finishing a distant third in Tuesday's Indiana primary, the Kasich campaign's chief strategist, John Weaver, sent out a memo announcing the Ohio governor will remain in the race until Trump secures the GOP nomination.

"Tonight's results are not going to alter Gov. Kasich's campaign plans," Weaver wrote in the memo. "Our strategy has been and continues to be one that involves winning the nomination at an open convention."

I’m sure Cruz knows that. He would be wise not to release them until he makes his deal with Trump. Trump’s praise of Cruz in his victory speech last night plus the Ted Cruz statement that he was suspending and not ending his campaign indicates this is probably what is going to happen within the next month or so. Probably sooner.

You'll probably get your wish. I heard that one of his confidants said he doubted if John would ever run for public office again after his term as Governor is up. He is just one of those elected officials who was popular at the state level but never could parlay that into a national following. Another commentator noted that in any “normal” election year he would have had more of a chance, being a somewhat centrist/conservative type, but this isn't a “normal” election year, with two larger-than-life candidates going at it, one very bombastic and populist, the other the epitome of power broker/Washington Insider. In that environment, a low-key moderate type is going to get steamrolled.
