Donald Trump Begins to Plot His Post-Nomination Future
More at link: Donald J. Trump will decide in the next week whether to accept support from super PACs. He is leaning toward a conventional political figure as a vice presidential pick. He has not yet spoken with Senator Ted Cruz. And those haters whove been the most critical of him? He doesnt necessarily want their support.
Those were a handful of comments Mr. Trump made in four phone-in interviews on morning TV shows the day after he became the Republican partys presumptive nominee.
Mr. Trump told the hosts of Morning Joe on MSNBC, in his first appearance of the day, that he was debating whether to accept support from super PACs. Mr. Trump had made bashing such groups a staple of his campaign stump speeches, and a change to embrace taking unlimited contributions from a single donor would be significant.
Thanks for the ping. I saw some of this morning.
By Nolan D. McCaskill 05/04/16 06:54 AM EDT Updated 05/04/16 07:50 AM EDT Donald Trumps campaign has begun vetting vice-presidential picks, but its too soon to disclose any names, the presumptive Republican nominee said Wednesday.
Calling into MSNBCs Morning Joe following a decisive victory in Indiana that knocked Texas Sen. Ted Cruz out of the race, Trump was mum on naming people hes considering as his running mate.
Well, its too soon. I just dont want to do it, Trump said. I think that, you know, a lot of people are talking about certain names, and certainly those are the names we are thinking of.
He did, however, suggest he would choose a politician.
I have the business, lets call them talents, and I think Ill probably go the political route, he continued. Somebody that can help me with legislation and somebody that can help me get things passed and somebody thats been friends with the senators and congressmen and all so we dont have to go the executive order route as much as Obama did, you know, where he cant get anything approved so he just keeps signing executive orders.
