What went wrong with Cruz is exposure.
People got to know him a bit better. He really is just not a very nice man, and listening to him makes you cringe. I think the whole nasty business he pulled with Dr. Carson was key.
In all fairness, CNN is partial to blame for the Carson escapade, and Ted did apologize to Ben in public, on stage during the second or third debate.
I think you’re right. I wonder if women saw through Cruz first because we tend to focus on personality and men tend to focus on the ideas of a candidate. That’s ok, but when you miss that a person is actually pretty slimy in tone and actions, it makes his ideas less important.

...not to mention that he is the devil incarnate, had affairs with 5 women, lied all the time about Trump donating to Hillary’s campaigns, and deliberately had his father assassinate John F. Kennedy, or was it Lee Harvey Oswald? I mean, how could anyone like someone like that?
I agree. It started with Dr. Carson. Being close to Beck didn’t help - he started to look ridiculous. During the ABC debate he acted like a silly frat guy. He lost me with his comments after the Chicago violence. His obsession and lies regarding Trump made him appear delusional and paranoid. His supporters, such as his father, Mark Levine, and George Will did not help. Like you said, listening to Cruz made one cringe.
