I always got the impression he was flying solo. He certainly did not help the never Trump “movement” by giving voters an option besides Cruz.
I think the GOP and #NeverTrump pacs funded him. I don’t know if he was there to help split the vote with Cruz or maybe Trump funded him to stop Cruz. Never know. Politics makes strange bedfellows.
