Love this story! My favorite horse was a black and white pinto ... I could ride her anywhere without a saddle or bridle... Some old man had matching teams for his wagons... This horses mate died and he didn’t want her.. She had lumps on her belly where he’d kick her with his boots on.. My dad let me have her... She absolutely understood she was loved and reciprocated accordingly. I still get angry thinking about that mean old man....
I rode my boys without bridal and saddle too. Could jump over their rumps like the cowboys did in the movies.
Many long hours with them. Would fix a half bread loaf of peanut butter sammich ——some for me and some for them! Take off for the back forty for the day !
Upon bringing horse #1 (PB) home , we told our daughter that since she never had a lesson she should not try to ride him. About 3 hours after that she came running in "Mommy, Mommy I got on PB's back and had him walking around the barn".
To this day she hasn't had a real lesson. She bought Pat Parelli's dvds and watched his show.
She trained our 2nd horse, Bentley when he was a foal. She can ride him bareback , with saddle, swim with him down at the creek. Also, she has the boys run around in the paddock..around and around. She points her hand to the side and they change direction. She raises her hand up toward her and they walk over to her.
I amazed. She's like that with all animals. No wonder she's a vet tech.
