“When YOU say Conservative, what the hell do YOU mean?”

Doesn’t financially support far-left candidates like Hillary Clinton and Jerry Brown.
Pro-life all the time
A conservative voting record in office

My concern is when a "pure" Conservative gets stuck on ONE pet topic. That is when things get challenging.

This is much like abortion and RKBA / Second Amendment rights, for example. Liberals do not wish firearms to be permissible. In both cases, my feeling is pure Conservatives should NOT get abortions if they do not want them and should perhaps convince others not to get them...yet they remain LEGAL.

In the case of firearms...Liberals should be free to NOT have them in their homes or their private property. They can encourage people not to own them, too. Firearms should naturally remain LEGAL and people who are Conservative can continue to happily buy and possess them as they wish.

One would suppose I am more of a hands-off individual who allows people to make their own decisions for themselves. Anything that specifically does not require Federal involvement (like the military) should be pushed to States to administer on a far more local method.

That is my quick $0.02 viewpoint on it with two limited examples.
This is naturally a very complex topic that could take volumes of space!

Winners do not unite the party by saying now it’s time for you to agree with me. They unite the party by “making deals,” such as:

Showing the factions of the party how their interests are advanced by the winner of the nomination winning in the general election. Typically this is done on the basis of the lesser of two evils. You might not agree with me on everything (a euphemism for a wide range of disagreements), but I’m not a bad as Hillary Clinton.

The lesser of two evils tactic turns some people off and can be pushed too far. If pushed too far, the consequence is third party siphoning. So, in practice, winners of nominations simultaneously attempt to (1) motivate the base, (2) appeal to swing and independent voters, and (3) minimize third-party siphoning.

As for what “conservatives” believe, the word means different things over time and between the English-speaking world and the European continent. It can change in meaning and perhaps is changing in meaning. But, Reagan - who was not in real time supported by Trump - defined it as (1) a market-oriented economy, (2) upholding traditional moral values, and (3) a strong national defense. This definition preceded Reagan, dating back to about 1960, and continues to today, unless it has now changed.

There are differences between this definition of conservatism and the populist brand of conservatism, but there are similarities as well. Trump is a smart person and within reach of being elected President of the United States. He should be able to figure this out.

I wish I could sit down with #NeverTrump and ask them, "When YOU say Conservative, what the hell do YOU mean?"

On another thread, FReeper Jacquerie implied that, to the #NeverTrump crowd, when they say "Conservative", they mean "Republican Party Establishment".

In any event, I posted Haugland's blog only because I am also hostile to democracy. While no system is perfect, I have more faith in the security of the filtered will of the people rather than their direct participation.

“In order for the Progressives to achieve their objective, they would need to convince the delegates to the national convention to surrender their individual right to choose the nominee, and, instead, vest that right in the low information voters in primary elections. Would the delegates, while sitting at the 2016 convention knowing they possess the right to choose the nominee, voluntarily surrender that right? Of course not!”
author of Jacquerie's posted article

What we are seeing here, is the Republican Establishment panicking at prospect of loss of control.

There still is, but now they occupy the seats in the House and Senate, as well as the White House, and all the government agencies.

Did you know that, at the end of the Civil War, there were more prostitutes in Washing DC than in any other city on our planet?

Does that figure include members of congress?

Sounds like you do not believe that abortion is murder, the killing of an innocent human being.

Also sounds like you believe that "pure conservatives" oppose abortion because it is a political position, not a deeply held belief that abortion is murder.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I don’t use the word “conservative” anymore. It has become meaningless.

Trump labels people without profanity or looking like he's losing his cool. Goofus Warren, Lyin’ Ted, ect. The few times he gotten into trouble stem from becoming passionate about attacks on his wife. His locket is quote subtle and easy to laugh at which is why it's so effective.

Once it was a happy event to welcome new people to FR because it was a sign more were awake and cared. Now if you don’t agree with someone it is used to bludgeon them.

Sounds a lot like the NeverTrump crowd in DC and how they would prefer Hillary rather than welcome new people to the party and lose their perks.

Time for real patriots to think about what not defeating Cankles will mean!

When YOU say Conservative, what the hell do YOU mean

They mean endless foreign wars without victory, immeasurable wealth only for the financial services industry, and a single global wage for labor.

And open borders for certain countries.

Ross Perot broke the definition of conservative back in ‘92 when he stood against NAFTA.

Bush I broke it with his “New World Order” BS. Since then, “conservative” is what neocon globalists call themselves in order to get our vote.

“Holding on to the ideas and concepts of things I knew as a younger man .. even as a child .. when life was simpler and less complicated”

I’m sure those who define conservatism with some kind of check-list would scoff at your statement, but I think you hit on the heart of Trump’s appeal.

I miss the America I grew up in - before it was taken over by insane leftists looking for things to be offended at. I miss the America where people were civil to each other, and we didn’t have stupid leftists holding up “anti-hate” signs while threatening to beat up Trump supporters. I miss the America that built things and invented things and sent men to the moon. I miss the America where my Dad could work an everyday job and still be able to afford to buy a house and support a family and have vacations and a life.

I think Trump misses all those things too, and wants to try and put some of the pieces back together. And maybe we need a little bluster and bull-headedness in the office because what’s been done to our country is just evil and unforgivable.

On the planet? I doubt that. Washington at the end of the Civil War was a garrison town in the middle of a big war. Prostitution was rampant. Whether Washington had more prostitutes than New York or Philadelphia, however, I don't know. And I would guess that many much larger cities around the world had more.
