Ronald Reagan in 1980 (by almost 25%).For an apples-to-apples comparison, what would be the number of GOP voters in the 1980 primaries vis-à-vis 2016? My guess would be about 25% more now than then, so Trump's accomplishment would be the equal of Reagan--not something to sneeze at, needless to say.

Actually, I’d think just the opposite. But getting voter registration #s is really, really hard. So far, I’ve been unable to do it.
