This will be known as "Question 1" on the Nevada ballot in Nov. You could take the editorial and put Nevada in any place that currently has Maine. From what I've been able to find, the mommunists and nannie bloomers have already cranked over $3 million into pushing this in NV. On the other hand, the opposition(pro 2nd) has spent ZERO dollars to fight it from what I've seen. What are the odds that it will pass. You know, "commonsense" and all that.

The left is running out of time to get the guns. Panic is now setting in.

Sounds like a statute that can and will be easily ignored.

The gun grabbers are going to persist in getting this on ballots via the referendum process. They will never stop.

I was approached at least a dozen times to sign the petition to get it on the ballot - always refused. But it doesn't take that many signatures to get ballot access. I doubt the proposal passes, but it'll be back, just like a vampire.

Great article. If purchase checks/registration were so benign why does the FBI ignore the law and fail to destroy the record checks accumulated over the years. It’s a hidden agenda to prepare for an eventual federal confiscation as the Dems have advocated we emulate Australia & Britain.

Unless the states think they can prohibit residents from buying guns in other states, then they will only be “registering” the most naive of gun buyers.

Just a few years ago, gun control in Nevada would have gone over like a Honeybaked Ham franchise in Tel Aviv. It's hard to believe this even got on the ballot.

"The referendum’s proponents claim that these requirements are easy,"

But having to show a photo ID to vote is impossible.

Some greedy lawyers (are there any other kind?) should file class action law suite for conspiracy to deny a civil right.

It’s not reasonable since 2A is a right.

You don’t have to register to vote. All states have registration, but if you don’t register, you can still show up and vote.

“Gun owners should be paranoid about Maine’s background check referendum”

Paranoid? It’s not that they should be merely paranoid but genuinely afraid.

The public is unbelievably stupid. Don’t they realize that this is a ploy of their government to create even more government jobs to handle the paperwork and to collect more tax (coerced)money from the fists of their citizens in the establishment of even more requirements and “hoops to jump through” for themselves?

This is another example as to where we are today: The people creating another government regulation or bureaucracy that will ensure less freedom for themselves...and in this case...reduce armed resistance against the eventual privatization of everything they own and the stripping of all freedoms from them.

However, the state is Maine and it is already a lost cause anyway.
