Moscow meda claims terrifying weapon can dodge radar defences and bring destruction to an area the size of 'Texas or France'

Russia is preparing to test-fire a nuclear weapon which is so powerful it could reportedly destroy a whole country in seconds.

The "Satan 2" missile is rumoured to be the most powerful ever designed and is equipped with stealth technology to help it dodge enemy radar systems .

This terrifying doomsday weapon is likely to strike fear into the hearts of Western military chiefs, as current missile defence technology is totally incapable of stopping it.

Its official name is the RS-28 Sarmat and it will replace aging Soviet R-36M missiles, which NATO military experts nicknamed "Satan".

"In this sense, the Sarmat missile will not only become the R-36M's successor, but also to some extent it will determine in which direction nuclear deterrence in the world will develop," the Russian news network Zvezda reported .

The missile is expected to be capable of delivering up to a dozen warheads, allowing to effectively destroy an area the "size of Texas or France", the broadcaster continued.

It is expected to have a range of 10,000 km, allowing Moscow to attack European cities including London as well as major cities on America's west and east coasts.

What this would do is have unintended consequences,
It would lead to “launch on launch”,
no leeway for mistakes but I guess
it will be ok because they all will be
controlled by computers anyway?

Would you like to play a game?

The missile’s warheads are stealthy during sub-orbital/orbital flight and re-entry. We won’t know what hit us.

Russia had A LOT of problems with Chechnian Muslims. That’s why they concerned with Muslim take over of Europe.

They don’t like Iran either, they are just allied with them for political reasons.

Much of the British print press is dominated by Yeltsin-era oligarchs who robbed the Russian working class of hundreds of billions of oil money and miss the good ole days of Soviet domination.

I did re-read it later. Thanks. Wonder which faction of NATO came up with the idea?

I meant the warheads, underground.

Detection method is irrelevant. Satan-2 is not stealth, it uses a huge number of countermeasures.

Clinton stopped that. There is nothing stopping us from underground testing.

In 1993 I was out at the test site and they were preparing a device for the shot next day when we were told to stand down. Clinton found out and ordered all testing to cease and we have never had one since.

Yeah, I know. That needs to be undone at least for a period of time.

So what’s our counter-measure for Satan 2? 10 packs of Rods-of-the-Gods twenty miles up on each coast?

Clinton was terrible but both of the Bushes were as bad. Neither cared one whit about our nuclear forces nor about their deterrence effect. They were no better than any Dem.

Barry is the most loathsome of the Presidents since I joined in 1975, and Carter was horrid. The only reason Carter even allowed us to operate was he was scared of the Soviets and thought if we had our forces, at least on paper, then they would not attack. Carter did run us out pretty thin and we only came back when Reagan became President. After Reagan we started the long slide to where we are today.

Their 1970s technology aside, they certainly win the contest for best name!

I once saw the plume from one of those test firings from Vandenberg, around 1999. As the plume went up into the different levels of the atmosphere and stratosphere and the sun hit it, it reflected all the colors of the rainbow.

It was beautiful, and it reminded me of freedom.

I was in front of my girlfriend’s home in San Jose, CA, several hundred miles away, and I immediately knew it was from Vandenberg, which made it all the more awe-inspiring.

Add this project to the new class carrier they have been going to build for 25 years.

The new large destroyer class they have been going to build for 20 years.

The new Stealth Fighter that they have built five of and are having so many difficulties with that they project only 50 to be built by 2020...if that.

To the new stealth, intercontinental bomber they have been talking about for ten years.

To the new, decent nuclear attack submarine class that they have managed to commission only one of in the past 12 years.

To the new decent, stealthy large frigate class that they have built and commissioned one of in the last eight years.

And any number of other major projects that end up being 99% talk and very little substance.

They’re broke...really, really broke.
