In 1972 when Esso changed to Exxon, National Review did a spoof about America changing to Nixxon, parodying the argument Exxon used, e.g., “There are many different names for our country (America, the United States, the USA), so to simplify things, we’re changing to one name for all our brands — Nixxon.”
